put this in the wrong section earlier i think.

Ok, so I have an RE SE12 coming and a planet audio BB-650.1. I've already built the box (cube shaped, a little over 1ft^3 volume after the sub is in. Looking at it sitting in the hatch.. it just looks kinda half arsed. So my plan is to keep that box and use some thin particle board to kind of put a face on the box so it looks like it's built into the side of the hatch, get me so far? My question is on the direction the sub will face. I heard that I may be able to get tighter bass if I face the sub toward the back, side, or floor of the hatch. If I face it to the side or back, the face im building around the box will act like a very poorly sealed box amirite?
What if I put some legs on the front of the box so I can stand it up and the sub would be facing down? could I just cut a slot in the face between the lags facing inward or would that make the face around the box act like an unsealed ported box?

What i'm asking though, is if I have it firing downward, is the dress up facing going to effect the sound, i.e. is it going to act like another box outside of the actual box?

sealed or ported box? if ported what you tuning to and what kind of port? playing with your port types can get you diff sounds and allways to many varibles. I have a 90 integra pretty close to same thing and ive ran 3 12" alumapro alch SQ subs in sealed box, 1 kicker 12" L7 slot ported , 4 12" kicker L7's aero ported and a single ten in a bandpass box. Ive fired the subs off the back of the hatch and off the glass all depends on how much port or cone noise you want to hear. try jsut puting the box in each way up and back see what sounds good to you and build from there.

Tranmission line box facing sub and port backwards. You can dress the top and face of the box to look like it is molded to the hatch floor. Trans-line boxes are very loud, very efficient and can be tuned to play extremely low.

How much hatch space do you have? How much do you want to keep? Trans-lines are fairly easy to build for a smaller space.
