How much port area is too much? I was thinking of building a 10CF box tuned to 18Hz with a port area of 180sqin for an 18". Is that too much port area? What is a good ratio? I'm looking to make tons of output down low.

why are you going to tune to 18 hz? good low output can be had by a 30 hz or so tuning not 18.
what are you installing this in?
what sub are you going to use?
rough measurements here nothing set in stone but
the port would be over 140 inches long and at 28hz it will be around 50 inches long even at 38 hz it will be like 20 inches long

tuning at 18hz, in that size box with that big of a port, you're going to end up with a box twice the size you intended.

I actually have the box dims figured out. I'm just wondering if thats to much CSA for the port. Should I go down to 15sqin per cf? And dont worry about not being able to hear 18Hz thats just the way I like it.

18hz is too high! tune that box to like 5hz, then you'll def. hit the lows! [Eek!] [Confused]

I'm planning on running TC LMS-5400's. Their recomended tuning frequency is 19Hz for a large box. So what were you going to tell me kid? And now if I could just find someone knowledgable who could just answer my question instead of critisizing what I like maybe we could get somewhere.

Ok thats a start. So what your saying is that 180sqin is too much area for a 10cf box wheather its tuned to 18Hz or 30Hz? I want to start off as low as I can possible tune it so if I dont like how it turns out I can cut the port back till I get it where I want. Its always esier to take off then to add on.

i just don't see how you're going to have the room for a 10cf box, and a port with 180si that's long enough to tune to 18hz. do you realize how big that port will be? probably more volume that the box itself.

Yep its going to be approx 150in long. Box will be roughly 18x30x66net. Port volume will be more then the box about 15.625cf.
