The post on component speakers got me thinking. Someone mentioned ribbon tweeters and I am kicking around the idea of a pair in the kickpanels. I've heard the eclipse set and I love them but they're 1200 dollars and I would rather have just a 5" and a ribbon in the kicks and maybe a 8 in the door. The ribbon has to be 8 inches or smaller. Does anyone know of some companies that make ribbons, someone mentioned Eton but I couldn't find any info on the net. Any other ideas?

I'll see if I can still get the ribbons I picked up threw one of my electronics supply houses and put in my home speaks. They were no name but man do they sound good

i know Infinity (use to?) make ribbon tweets.. very nice... most ribbon tweets are exceptionally clear.. not sure what you'll get on the RTA ,, *****the RTA anyway but it sounds super smooth and clean.. but ribbons, i have heard blow easily if overpowered/clipped
we (my bro) had Dali (skylight?) home speaker with a 110cm (nearly 4 foot) ribbon tweet.. this speaker defies physics- it had a 15inch woofer FREEAIR!!! and still had great bass! the tweets were unbelievable should have heard the imaging- the best cars i've ever heard are NO comparsion!

Infinity still makes ribbon tweets, however, you have to find an actual infinity dealer to get them. Eton, Canton, B&W, Carver, Magnaplanar, Peerless, MB Quart (used too) all make ribbons. The best sounding however, IMO are the Maggies. Good luck getting them, and if you can get them, good luck affording them.

Newform research is a Canadian company that supplies speakers and kits using ribbons. Try emailing this address. I think the contact person is John Meyers. He reponds very quickly.
