planning to wall the qx4.. this is going to be mainly for bassrace/sick daily driving.. now i have room to wall behind the rear seats and have also thought of just coming up behind the fronts. besides seating options.. what losses or gains could i pick up from walling infront or behind rear seats.. will my lows be better further back? #s lower with it back? i know ill have less space to work with with it back but i know i could make it happen

hey, i walled my 86 monte carlo with 6 10's, now i know from experence that your going to have high #s with the higher hz. but .... however you can build the wall with a removeable port cover so you can hit the lows with the cover on and for daily use , and when it comes time for comp. remove it to get the #s with the higher frequency's

my personal thought would be behind the back seats, so you can keep it a 4 door and 4 seater. also you will have more room for the waves to travel giving you better lows. i always heard that a wall was better for higher frequencies cause the waves dont have as much room to fully expand with lower frequencies. and being a daily driver you would probably want to get some hoes in the back seats. call them the seats of death. or orgasum seats.

the less interior room the higher the note youll have to play if you do behind the seats it may be as much as 5hz or more lower for the "magic note"
if you make it square enough you can slide it forward for comps and then back for the ride home

put it behind the front seats for higher spl's. the smaller your cab the better. then give it a smaller port to play better at lower frequencies. if done right you'll get the best of both worlds higher spl's and great lows. just my opion though.

Ok I have a question. almost every wall I have seen has the port on the drivers side and subs on passenger side.
Why? the mic is placed on passenger side, wouldnt it be better to have the port on that side of the vehicle?
Im designing one right now and I have never done one before, this will be in a van, and it will be a bass racer, so someone school me on why its done this way.

Im just trying to understand the theory, like I said I have never built one. in my current vehicle the port is way louder then placing mic in front of subz.
I talked my Sensi this evening and now I have a better understanding of how it works.

The theory on the port placement has to do more with trial and error then theory. Many people have tried it the other way and it works better with the port on drivers side.
On the note about a woofer pumping into the mic. The idea is good, but mostly wrong. We have more then a few cars with bandpass enclosures. The port is on the drivers side and the woofers are in the box. The amps are actually mounted on the passengers side of the box. Nothing is actually pointed at the mic.
I have a car that I use for daily with 2 12s in a wall. I have 4 4inch aeros in the box currently in the center of the box. It plays music great and it has a wicked nasty hump at 17hz

wow, 300 square inches of port is a little too much, isn't it? If you want to build a bandpass, check out the BP from the camp bandpass thread. It looks promising, especially the one that teamsubgopoof made. Good luck with your wall!

I dont think the port is to big. But Im a SPL newb so take it for what its worth, Im gonna try and see what it does, I have seen some Massive ports in a few walls, and They SLAMMED.
Its all trial and error from my understanding, and I have read the whole camp bandpass thread a couple of times, there is good info in there for sure.

beg to differ......i have a wall that i play music through.....27 cubes with 461 sq port, it does a 58 with a tone, broke out of the 149 class in bass race last year, my frequency is between 58-61 hz depending on humidity. temp, what state, altitude barometric pressure......but if you want to hear sound quality and have it hurt you can have it both ways....you just have to work at it and an apex processor helps alot.

Yeah, I was just playing but 150+ dB's and sound quality rarely go together.
