Designers,

Advice please, I did my first contest and I came in 7th. with 141.6! My system consisted 2 S15L7's and 1 SPL Z1x3000D amp. The winner had 151.?? (His system consisted of 12 s12L7's, 10 kicker amps. don't remember the models) now I want payback! I'm planning this system for next years contest, my goal is to hit 150 or BETTER! As for enclosures not sure which way to go..sealed or ported. Use kicker SPL box specs or custom build. a wall is out of the question, unless its removable!! gotta do the transformer thing after the comp!

My car is an everyday driver but there comes that time!!! if more info is need, please let me know. As a newbie, everthing was rush, rush with my first system, now I'm a bit wiser.. and more humble, I'll take it slow with my second!! [Smile]

New system in progress.
stage 1.. planning, which would be the best way to setup my new system.

1. 4 s15l7's with 4 1200.1 (one amp per sub)

2. 4 s5l7's with 2 2500.1 (one amp per 2 subs)

3. 2 12" solox's w/ 2 2500.1 (2 batteries per amp)

power wise. there will be 4 red tops to either system! or 3

I you have better suggestions for systems please, by all means inform me!

holla when you can. [Big Grin]

P.S. I posted under SPL and got no reply, I hope this is the right form for help and suggestions about creating a new system.

I will take your advice on this but...I'm going to add just a little bit more for extra protection! Tell me, what do you think about my new toys for X-mas??

2 Autotek MM4000.1 or 2 MX5000 (which would you take)
1 Mega cap
3 red tops
1 more isolator
2 more 15L7's 2 ohm version or(2 APX 15's or 18's)
a hole lot of 0 gauge cable
1 fuse holder

just for s**ts and giggles. in a good install, what do you THINK I should see now?? [Eek!]

what kind of comps do you go to??? 12 l712's and with a good bit of power and only 151, i hope it was set up for sound quality lol.

I'm guessing you drive some big SUV with your kinda low score of 141. but you should be pretty close to 150 with the equipment you already have unless your tuned really low. I hit a 147 with 2 l712's and a pca2000d around 2000 watts. This was in a hatchback integra without checking the resonant frequency of the car and guessing what frequency I tuned the box to. Also the first box i built for those speakers and it sounds good for music.

I think your subs and power is fine, you should start building a few boxes for what you have and see what you can hit.

what kind of car are you driving?

lowFreq,

I'm driving a 1999 honda odyssey. I'm using the streetbass box design via kicker. I'm thinking about using their spl box next. As to your question, what kind of comp am I going to..db drag! the only difference in Japan is that they only have 2 classes. super street and extreme. The only diff between the 2 are, EXTREME is for shop cars and SUPER STREET is NON SHOP! there are no a,b,c,modified...etc.,and in both classes, engines are running!

Yesterday, I picked up an SPL METER from splmeter.com. did some sub re-ajustingad and I managed to hit 142.7, with the added equipment listed above, what would my odds be for doing 150's or BETTER!

I have never owned or even dealt with an odyssey. The car can make or break you as far as spl goes.

Do you have the subwoofers facing up towards the roof and the port facing towards the back of the car?

And since you have a meter I would go ahead and start making the port shorter and see if that helps.

What are you tuned to? the box that is

Are you still using the capacitor? If you are please take it out it can only hurt you in spl.

congrats on doing your #.
what microphone was that # done on? and what I would do is get rid of the cap, and who knows what else??? if its a daily driver umm... I know those subs have a low f/s which means they are good for daily and db draggers have also had good results. A buddy has two L7 15's and two DEI 1100d's and did a 145 or so in a blow thru in a very sq oriented box on the ac190... good luck and keep experimenting with box designs.

If you doing SPL don't tune your box to 30hz. [Wink] Try 40-50 if you don't know the peak frequency of your car.

Thanks on the congrats, as for the mic, not sure if it was the old or new TL. I'll try some new boxes this year, it seems that the designs are more important than the subs?? correct me if I'm wrong here.. I though my subs were the problem so I planned on picking up a pair of APX's 18"ers! powered by a pair of MM4000.1. I'm sure that will get me 150 or better!!! your thoughs on this, or should I keep the 15L7's and work on the boxes?? as for the cap, its gone, it will be replace with a BATCAP 800.

TIA,

Gavin

subs up port back . man them l7s should be at 150. maybe another amp and lose that cap they usually hurt your score not alot but alittle maybe .3 . what tone did you play.. my ears like 34 hz seams loadest in my car but the mic is loadest at 45hzin the car . do you have a place to meter it ..to test every tone .ithink you can get that set up to 150 with very little money.. more power and ground ran and a good bat.maybe a better box but that box looks plenty big

here is what i would do herer is a email u might want to email for help jbrown@kicker.com this is the top notch spl maker in boxes he has not failed me yet that is a best start is ur odyssey a mini van or suv ur box looks big enough i would try putting the L7 12 as far back in ur enclosure as possible and ur port faceing ur tail gate that a good start since u have a t/l i would try starting at 49 hrtz and maybe as high as 53 hrtz and play with it and see what it does i would add 1 more amp like u have know and put 1 on each sub just for spl and for daily just use 1 amp i rund 2 2500d on 4 L7 12's but my box was built for bass race not bad 149.8 doing spl but the game is play with what u have first and make it work just my 2 cents oh by the way i herd the samething that the power cap hurts u in spl
