Here's my dilema. I want to build a nice system for my '69 Cutlass thats totally stealth and will keep almost all of the interior original.

Back a few years when CD changers first came out, Sony had a 10 disk changer with an optional black box (literally) that was a tuner & had a pair of preamp outs. It was controlled by a wired remote that was about the size of a removable faceplate. My idea, back then, was to hide the black box & changer in the trunk or under the seat and install the remote in the top of the driver's visor. I'm pretty sure this system is way out of production, but could it be pulled off by wiring a removable faceplate to a remotely mounted HU? Maybe hide the HU behind dash with only a slot big enough to load & eject CDs visible?

I'm also considering building a custom console that would house my new Hurst shifter and maybe the HU. Generally, is the any problems with angling a CD HU up to 45-60 degrees? Or does it vary by manufacturer?

i've seen the detached faceplate trick done before. it can easily be done, and results are excellent if you do it right. i've seen the HU hid under the seat so that the CD can be loaded right at the front edge, and i've seen it hid in the trunk and the faceplate was simply a changer controller. either way, it looks neat.....especially with the face mounted into a sunvisor
