I have a RF 12"dvc wired 2ohms into my punch250a2 and when it plays it get's hot! not hot enough to melt a wire but hot enough that I can only leave my hand on the heatsink for about 10 secconds. I havent tryed playing the amp for long periods of time yet, like over 20 min and was wondering if it was supposed to be that hot or if I can dammage something with it hot?

It could be too hot, though i duno much about RF stuff. Other than i know that their 'sinks can get really hot and still keep the inside cool, Tech Man wouuld be the one to best answer it, or even anyone with RF experience.

I'm not sure, but I think all Punch amps have a thermal overload protection switch (turns off when really hot) so your amp won't self destruct. If it makes you feel uneasy, put an amp fan on it. You can get one from radio shack for about 15 dollars. Also, check your voltage going to the amp with music playing. I had a problem with my old punch amp heating up, and discovered 13v at the amp...but only 11.5 when playing loud. Bad battery. Bought a new one and the problem was solved.

Nod to sqandspl. I'd recommend a fan or two. Also check the electrical system . I used to build a box for the amp itself and then mount the fans throughout the boxes so that some were pulling cool air in while others were pushing the hot air out. I never had a problem with my Punches overheating, my old series one (mini grills, black) did though, but easily fixed. However, a friend of mine bought the 60 and wired it so low that the impedence was lower than the lowest Pentagon sub basement!! It got hotter than hell, but never turned off, just made sure the beasty could breathe.
Key to heat, make sure your beasty can breathe, without good airflow = true death. steak, decap., fire sorry, all Lumley and vampire fans dat's for you .

I like the idea of the thermal overload switch because that way I cant accidentially cause any damage to the amp. I think I'll go pick up a couple of thoes fans at RS.

I have a Punch 400a4 and a Power 500a2, and they both get pretty hot. I've been using them for about 2 months and I haven't had any problems. I think the heat sinks are designed like that so that they can heat up a lot while keeping the internal components cool.
Almost forgot... RF recomends that the amps be mounted vertically, not horizontally so that it will remove heat more efficiently. ------------------

Mr. LADA if you live in Kanada as I do, you could go to Princess Auto and pick up fans for about $2 each, I have 8 for my pair of 1100a2 when I get them... It will be soon, oh yes it will be very soon...

Well, it's pretty much been covered but if you can leave your hand on for 10 seconds it's not near self destructing. A fan is always a good idea so go for it if you can. And do make sure you have enough juice getting into your amp.
