Nod to Dukk. I'd say .25 cubic is all the larger you'd probably need, and that's probably on the outside of the measurements (you could go smaller). If you don't have a lot of room to play with, build the enclosure to fit properly and then put polyfill in it. Not the cure-all to end-all, but it helps - Just take a look at any Bose 301 house speaker, 6.5" mid-bass/range that sounds bigger than most 8s = polyfilled!!

Are we all saying to build some kind of seald or partialy seald enclosurs for are mids too. I in the past built door pods and left the backs open to the door. What realy bennies will this give a guy? Better low/mid bass?

Ummm.. yeah! The better mids will come with T/S specs you can use to make enclosures from. You wouldn't believe how much better a mid sounds in a proper enclosure!

Thanks to both capple and Audiophile for the input.
Audiophile, I have the T/S specs for the speakers. If I use the basic computer programme that I have for calculating Sub enclosures, and plug in the Mid parameters - will this programme yeild accurate results, or do I need to use a different programme?
If I need to use a different programme, do you have any suggestions?

On the doors and kicks on my car, both sets have openings where material like cloth, foam, poly-fill are used to control the sound. Experimentation determined only. I'm a little stunned the reputation the car seems to have

Whatcha mean Tech??? Just because the car is both the best and worst place to do audio?? It should get you roughed in. After your 'puter program does it's work, build the appropriate box's, cheaply, to see how they sound in the car. If the program comes up with some huge ol' box for a 5.25, say anything over .40f3 or so, it's a bs number, and you may have to figure the box size by hand, or get a better program. Anyway, after you build your boxes and listen, you can vary the size of the final box that will actually be in the car. With the box, experiment with stuffing and using styrofoam or wood blocks to *****up some airspace and try to find a size that makes you happy. Then build boxes that size, and rock on!

Thanks to all for the guidance - I think that you have me pointed in the right direction as far as a starting point goes, from there it will be experimentation to see what works best!
