I am in the process of redoing my system and I would like to get some opinions on the whole install.

First My system
Pioneer KEH-P780 Head Unit
Pioneer CDX-P656 CD Exchanger
AudioControl Four.1i Pre-amp/Line-driver/EQ 5-band
MB-Quart RSB 215 for the Front Stage (no rear fill)
Three JL W3's D6's in a seal box
Rockford Power 800a4 driving the front stage
Rockford Power 1100a2 for the Subs (Bridged)
Two Optima Batteries Red Top's (Front and Rear)
Two 1Farad Caps Ea to it's Amp
Upgraded the Alternator from 75 amps to 180 amps
Using 0 gauge streetwires to power the system via a 200 amp (PAC the same as LightingAudio S200 Solenoid) relay off of the ALT
to the second BAT then continuning with 0 awg all the way to the Caps via the 100 amp fueses. From there I will be using the appropiate wire to the amps.
I have two Rockford 100 amp circuit breakers to protect the batteries and two 100 amp Streetwires 0 awg
wafer fuses to protect the AMPs.
This install is costing me a grand half for the amp rack and half for materials

First Q
Is using 0awg wire for this project overkill?
Second Q
Is it right to connect the relay straight to the Alternator or to the first Bat?
Third Q
Should this system Rock?

Just traded the three W3's for W6's Wow Cool!!!

Thanks for all inputs

I think that you should think about picking the yellow tops or the blue top D900M. The red tops are not warrentied if used for audio use. This is what Optima told me when I had problems with my red tops.

Doughboy !!!!!

First if you can read it is not a A2 it is a A4 and I will be using a set of Image Dynamics CD-1EV2 Compression Horns under the dash along with the MB's. So as you can see I will be needing the power.

I took your cosideration and went out and traded the back Red Top for a Yellow Top dual post Bat which after rewiring will be runing the whole system. The Red Top will be used as the standard car battery.
Thanks for your insight

You want to run an 800a4 to horns?!? OH man...

The solenoid goes in the run between the 2 batteries.

Dukk You think a H800A4 will not do the job? My installer has not suggested any thing different. Although I have another Power 1100A2 on standby.

I dont understand why everyone thinks those damn horns are so impressive. If I wanted to listen to a transistor radio through a bull horn, I'd buy one....

I had horns in my SQ car. And they rocked. Although I have to say that most people don't have them set up right and waste there money. It took a long time to make them sound really good. It is alot easier to get good sound from components.

And by the way those horns will screem with that kind of power. Horns don't really need much power.

That was more my point: with that kind of power, even at minimum gain, it will drive you right out of the car. Hint: turn it down when you see light...

Ah, but you slam the horns too...

If the same amount of time and care is spent with a pair of guides as on a set of KPs for separates they can sound every bit as nice and walk all over them for output ability (hey it's gotta be loud too!)

Dukk, maybe your right, and I just havn't heard the right horns in the right car with the right installation yet. I did hear Eric whats-his-name from ID's Sable with the ORIGINAL ID horns in it, he had them running off the Lanzar Opti amps, and they were OK at best, not the stellar pieces everyone was making them out to be. I'm adding a new line to my signature because of this....

STILL waiting to hear a GOOD pair of HLCD'S!

As you all have seen I Was planning on getting this install with the company that I bought all this darn equipment from but they keepon d??king me around on a install date.
You would think after spending that type of money they could at least fit you into there schduled. I took the horns and the amps back for an in store credit, I think I will give up the Powerwedge with the w6's too in favor for two 15" ORION XTR D's and their Xtreme 600.4 for the front stage and a 1200 to run my subs. Since I will be using the MB,s I want to add a 6 1/2" mid bass on the lower door panel using Orions CO63 CX.

Any comments and sugestions welcome.

I'll put the horns in the car we are campaigning in our IASCA vehicle up against anybody's kickpanels. Horns can do things that conventional drivers cannot. The people in our class (Expert 1-600) and also the Bigboy Expert 601+ are kinda mixed as far as what the front stages are made up of, but there are quite a few horns in the mix. The trend is with Kickpanels by far though. If anybody is going to be at IASCA Finals, and wants to experience a set of horns that I feel is setup correctly come see me and I'll see if I can't get you some seat time.

The car to look for is a 1963 Ford Galaxie....pink with purple ghost flames and it is part of Kicker Competition Group

We'd be glad to tell you why we have stuck with the horns and offer up some of our tuning methods and such also......you just gotta ask.
