Alright, I've finally decided to completely rebuild my stereo now that I actually know what I'm doing... None of this SQ/SPL mix bull... This system will be solely SQ.

The components:
-Alpine CDA 7995 CD Head Unit
-Image Dynamics ID8 V2 D2 8" woofers
-Image Dynamics Chameleon 5.25" component set
-4 Channel Amplfiier - (Pending... Depends on what sub amp I get)
-Image Dynamics IDMAX 12 Subwoofer
-Zapco 9.0 or Rockford Fosgate Power 750S 2 channel Amplifier (Pending... I'm working on getting the 9.0, but we'll see how things turn out)
-Audio Control 3XS Crossover
-Optima Yellow Top Battery
-Stinger Interconnects and 0 AWG power wire
-Monster XP speaker wire

My current plan:

Alpine CDA-7995 in dash, of course. The ID8's will go in floor pods, and the Chameleons will go in door pads. The crossovers for the Chameleons and the 3XS will be on the amp rack, which will be located in the trunk. More on that later.

The IDMAX 12 will be in a sealed box firing up through the rear deck. The box will be completely sealed off from the trunk, a 12" square hole will be cut in the deck, and a new deck tray will be made. The subwoofer will sit about 2 inches away from the deck.

The amprack will be 2 tiers, and go into the spare tire well (I'll be sure to keep some fix-a-flat back there [Wink] ) The Optima Yellowtop batter will be on the bottom, along with the Zapco 9.0. On the top tier, the 4 channel amp and the 3XS will be there. The top tier will probably be plexiglass, but I'm not sure yet. Also, both decks will be cooled actively (fans). The Distrobution blocks for power will hide on the bottom tier, and the component crossovers will be on top. I plan on just running 6 pairs of MonsterXP 16ga. for the fronts.

Finally, the Optima and (-) distro block will be grounded to the frame, in separate points.

Anyway, I think that's it so far. Comments? I'd be glad to consider some new ideas.

This is not an sq car teh way you have it set up. It might sound really good, nearly most of teh time, but one or two frequencies will stand out in the midbass treble or midrange frequency reproduction. Look into at least a 15 band EQ or preferably Orions or Audiocontroll's digital 30 band EQ. My point is you need an EQ, to be SQ. Good Luck. Maybe step down the model of alpine HU and get alpines 14 band EQ/ DSP processor with the money you save. Good luck.

All speakers will be given a different frequency range. Probably about 40 down on the sub, 40-80 on the ID8's, and 80 up on the components. A crossover may not hurt, but I don't think I'll need one. My head unit also has some equalization features.

At someone's suggestion, I'm changin the 3XS to a 24XS, for steeper crossover slopes as well.

Not too terrible on the choices here, but I'd listen to the chameleons quite a bit first.. I find them a little bland.

Components in door pods only isn't a terribly good idea for most cars.. If you're concerned about depth of image.. You won't get it.

Separate grounds on the battery and distro blocks doesn't sound like a terribly good idea to me.. If they're located that close together, then perhaps you might ground them at the same spot.. Or at least strap them together with some heavy wire.

Switching the 24xs for the 3xs- Won't matter too terribly, to be honest, unless you have speaker issues to resolve. Flatter slopes (not as steep) are good where your speakers need less protection and roll off naturally without too much distress, or blend together well without issues.

Thanks for the reply. I was told by someone (VegaS10 actually), that a battery would need a separate ground from the (-) distribution block.

I currently have Kicker Resolutions. I have heard Chameleons, but not with the kind of program material I'll be using on them. Maybe I'll give them a more strict audition when I get the chance.

As for the door pods... would you recommend moving everything to the floor? Or perhaps putting the 8's in the doors?

On the 24XS, it's merely for crossovers. Is there a better way to do it?

Thanks again.
