i am thinking about porting my rear deck either by just taking out my 6x9's or actually cutting a hole and putting in a port ring . will porting the rear deck affect my tuning frequency of my enclosure or anything ? is there anything i should be aware of before i do this ? thanks .

Are you talking about just running your ports into the cabin of the car and leaving the sub firing into the trunk? If so, it's not a good idea. If it's a bandpass, go for it, but not for a ported box. The sub and port should be firing into the same airspace. I learned that the hard way!

no , the port tubes wouldnt be connected to the enclosure , i just wanted to use them to get more bass into the cabin of my car . another simpilar option for me is i could just take out my 6x9's , but i like having rear fill exspecially since my mids arnt that great . i can do either , i just thought of using the port tubes so i can leave my 6x9's in and so i could get a bit of a custom look . not sure if this is still a bad idea or not .

u can keep ur rear fill and take out the 6x9's yeah it does let the cabin build up more pressure
just put ur 6x9's in boxes and set them in ur back window boxes are anywhere from 15-25 apeice but its worth still having them

hope i was of some help [Razz]

Most people would prefer not to have those tacky boxes in the back window. They are unsightly and detract from a good looking car.

Just pull out your rear speakers if you can live without rear fill. That's what I did with my car.

How did it sound after removing the rear speakers? I didn't really notice much bass enhancement because I was getting used to no rear fill, but overall, the system (full range) sounds better, at least in the driver's seat [Wink]

I, too, read porting through the rear deck if the enclosure isn't a bandpass is a big no-no. Although some people do it and say it makes a difference. I'd hate to cut up a rear deck to learn that it sounds worse though. I'd just pull out the rear speakers. I read you can expect to get a 1dB gain on average. It won't be a night and day improvement, but I think it will help your imaging if not your SPL.
