I keep hearing that Rockford Fosgate Punch Power 1100a2's pull a lot of current. But around how much? They have a fuse rating of 100 amps but I was told they can draw up to 200 amps a piece. Is that true? I was planning on getting a 200amp Ohio Generator alternator and 3 to 5 Westco SVR-80 batteries, would this be enough power to feed both of those amps?

If you use that setup and those amps do draw that much current then you would be in trouble. I would say double what you were thinking of. The minute your amps draw more than the alt. can supply then the batteries go from 14 down to 12 or even 10 in less than a second. Your batteries wont keep the voltage up alone. You need to have the amount of amperage needed for those amps at full draw. That way your batteries keep the voltage up and you get the power out of your amps. Keep in mind if you play at 10 volts or so you will probably see around 4-500 watts out of each amp. Ouch! not good. I am in the process right now. I am doing three 210amp alternators and four D batteries. Most batteries like the optima have around 105 minutes of reserve. Mine will have 650 minutes and 1200 CCA. You will want to try and find something similar if possible. They weigh around 150lbs each though. Hope i was some help and good luck!

Are you sure that wont be enough juice? I can fit no more that 6 SVR-80 batteries into my car for a total of 480AH, they also have a reserve capacity of 150. I will get the biggest alternator I can find. That better be enough. I dont understand how those amps can draw that much current! And whats the purpose of a 100amp fuse rating if the amp draw twice as much juice! Im really confused here, one person says what I suggested first would be enough and another person says I need twice as much power. Can't we agree somewhere in the middle here!

Yes it will be enough to run it. But....Not to run it the right way. I have 12 amplifiers that have 60 amp fuses in them and they will do just over 900 watts each! My system at full draw will pull 962 amps of current. That means i would have to have 960 amps coming from alternators and enough batteries to discharge that quickly. I will have right around 650 amps and batteries with the reserve time of 650! So i might be ok. Not sure yet And when you said your batts have the reserve of 150, that means at a 25 amp draw usually. You load those down with lets say 300 amps. They dont like that If each amp pulls 150 amps or maybe more you could see that much current draw. And that rating of 100 amp fuse is at 12.6 volts probably. If you ran 16 volts to your amps they draw less amperage and put out maybe 3-400 watts more. If I were you i would try and go with 2 of those big alternators. Cause if you are competing DB Drag you will have to make several runs. Therefor after your first run your batteries will lose their top charge and they will drop lower and lower after that. You could see as much as 3dB lower from your first run to your last. Or instead you could have you alternators put out the amperage needed every run through and then your batteries would never have to lose voltage and you shouldnt drop much. Thats just my ideas. What ever you decide to do good luck!
