Here is my problem I'm dropping voltage on my batteries from 12.24 truck running nothing on to 8.82 with system on. Here is what my system contains. 16 12" xlc's running off 4 RF 800a2's. I'm running the stock alt. from an 82 S-10. For batteries I have 3 yellow tops. I'm wondering what I can do to get the voltage to be more stable. Would a bigger alt. work better than more batteries. I need a fix for this because I have a big comp. coming up on Sunday. So far my best is 150.4 with the gains all the way down, so I'm hoping that the more power it will jump me up a few more dB's.

3 yellow tops? to 4 amps? get another yellow top "1 for each amp" and get a bigger alt. My god man 4 800a2's! thats like 4000watts can you imagine the amp draw from them on a stock alt? yesh dont mind me Im just getting a stick and some marshmellows in preparation for the fire : )

I have 2 yellows in the bed and one under the hood. As for the Alt. Does anyone know if a full size chevy truck alt will mount up to my brackets with out mods, one shop that I talked to said yes but I would like to have more opinions on this. Because some of the one ton 4x4's have 150 and 200 amp alts.
Sounds like you MIGHT have a battery going down. I would have each of them load tested, replace any problems and then find some more battery power.
As far as the Alt. most GM parts men can tell you if the brackets are the same on the alt you are looking at. Or you could use the smog pump bracket and add a second alt for just the stereo.. (Hummmmm!)

I wish that I had a V6 in it. But I have a 4 banger (1.9) let me till you that 16 12's, a whole lot of 1" of mdf, extra batts, amps, and other stuff sure makes moving the thing fun.

Used to have an 81.5 S-10, 1.8 4 cyl. Couldn't kill the damn thing (tried running it into a house and through a Johnstown winter [4 feet of snow]). Still couldn't kill it
Anyway, yah like Thunder said, any GM guy worth his weight in salt will be able to tell you if you can transfer one alt to another vehicle. You shouldn't have much trouble. Also, look into an accuvolt and rewinding your alternator (rewinding may be cheaper than new). If you can find a good used alt from a full size, you'll have it made!
