Hi Ralph,
you are wrong with the costs !
Its way cheaper for an event organisator to do a
dB Drag Event than an EMMA Event !
I did 3 EMMA Events now with over 60 (top was 74)
competitors a year.
You have to pay daily fees (usually a FEW hundred Euro), trophies (you know that [Smile] )
food, hotel and drinks for the judges, a part of the entrance
fees of the competitors !
Usually you have nothing but big costs !
YOU have to find you a sponsor.
If you talk to them you may get a discount, but
still you have to pay a load. And they want 2
day events and expect that you throw on a party !
So that the judges can enjoy because they are
there for FREE, that means they get nothing for their
hell of a job they do during a weekend.
And thats no secret what I am telling, thats the normal
conditions for event promotors.
In my example, the only money I got back was the
money people paid for entrance fee. And usually
25% of that is going to EMMA !
With 74 competitors (30 ESPL, 44 SQ)and an average of lets say
18-20 Euro, you get about 1400 Euro back.
After the 25% you keep about 1000 Euro !!!
For that you must pay food, maybe hotel, the party,
the trophies (23 classes, 1-3rd place), your location and and and.
WHAT is FREE on that calculation?
I paid more and more during the years bc of having
an EMMA contest. (even they made me a special price).
Without having them, I would have been able to
have some money out of my events, but thats not
my intention. But it could have been way
over 5000 Dollars MORE for me in three years,
so I PAID 3000 out of my pocket...

Entrance fees:
(Now they turned them down a little,
but I dont know if promotors still have to pay the same,
because at the end THEY get less money for hosting a show)
Newbies 15 Euro (i think rookies)
Amateurs 25 Euro ! (32 Dollars)
Pros and Experts 50 Euro !!! (63 Dollars)
There is no 1x or 3x Event, so all the time the same.
ESPL is 10 Euro.
If you start in SQ AND ESPL, just 5 Euro more.
Events like Sinsheim or big car shows, you pay
extra, like at dB Drag, for entrance to the show itself.

So, EMMA is supported by the Industrie, and
the events support the EMMA also !
Lets see who will really benefit now from lower entree fees.
Maybe its changed now, but way too late, bc I am OUT !

dB Drag over here gives free rides for competitors
bc Detlef managed a lot of shows in Media Markets etc.
If you want to host a single point event, its so
easy and cheap compared to EMMA. Even a multi Point.
Of course with trained and certified judges all the time !
No misunderstanding please !
It depends how good you calculate.
But with dB Drag there is a possibility to
make a zero zero or a little win on money
without haveing huge sponsors.
And the dB Drag organisation is fair to everybody
and dont make the big money out of it.
Just the small license fee, but we use the format
he keeps up in Germany, so that is VERY ok !

Maybe its different at bigger shows, but I
dont have infos on that. This year, like Wayne said,
its politics and money.
The closed and ugly cars are just one point
of the other problem we have with the public.
Had nothing to do with Sinsheim.
But still it has to be changed !

That´s what´s best for YOU, but what´s best for dB Dragracing? If no one more than the compeditors want´s to go to a dB drag show, dB drag won´t last that many years...

I understand your point but we can´t afford to be selfish.

They must be doing something right.

In fact EMMA is financially 100% supported by the 12 volt companies in Europe. They give away shows for FREE and in many cases FREE registration because of their huge financial support.

They probably just beat out DBDRA on pricing. Does not mean they are better, just cheaper for the sponsors of the event.

They tried to do the same in the USA but did not get far because NO ONE HERE will pay for their free ride like in Europe..

Maybe I wrote too much (as always),
but did you read my posting about the costs?
EMMA is way more expensive than dB Drag...
(or I dont understand what your saying)

Wayne, you may take exception, but I'm not exactly wrong.

All I know is that Audio Thunder was removed from Toronto, there were considerably less shows in Canada this past year, and a lot of the larger shows are having poor turn outs. (a 3x with 2-3 competitors is not a good thing). Shows a certainly on the decline in a lot of area's.

I'm sorry if I offended you, I certainly didn't mean to, but seeing a big show like this being cancelled can't be considered a good thing.

I don't know about your area, but our 3X in Kelowna was probably the single biggest show in Western Canada in the last 5 or 6 years.

We also had well sufficient shows for anyone even remotely interested to make a run at finals.
Somewhere in the area of 30 shows here last year. I know I put on 3 singles, and paid for a double at my store alone.

The question isn't regarding turnout at dB Drag.
The question is what are you doing for dB Drag in YOUR area?

What am I doing in my area?

Well I had a hand in running the only 2 shows in my city last year and plans are already in the works for next year. I also formed the first competition team in my area so SPL enthusiasts have a way of getting together.

Every time I have gone to a show my car has been 100% open and I've always been glad to help people out. Further to that I've even gone so far as to show people what's IN my box/install and tell them exactly how to duplicate it. I've got no fears of a 1st timer beating me. Even if he does, the benefit to competitions in my area is well worth it.

I don't think it will get any better beacause people all over the world keeps asking if dbdrag is going to die, how interested would you be to go and compete if everyone is saying dbdrag soon will be out, your just giving yourself a big slap!
This is a very bad way to promote dbdrag!

Can't you guys talk good for dbdrag so you can continue to compete?
Come up with some good solusions instead!

Windows tinted so dark you can see in them, doors closed, banners covering the windows, what are they paying to see?? The outside of a CRX, Astro... They can stand outside and watch them go by on the street and not see in them. 99% of the Ext. cars/ vans covered doors bolted. There was nothing to see there but the Bass Racers, and a few SPL cars that were open. I said it before if you listen to the people walking around you will hear that CLOSED car/vans are one BIG problem! I heard it more than once at finals this year that people said "this was a waiste of money to come in and see the inside of nothing." "they all look the same" "weres the cool fiberglass installs" "I wont come here again" Something has to change or their will never be anyone interested in what we do.

You can look at it this way too.

I am ALL for having your car open to the public. I did it 99% of the time for db Drag World Finals (anyways I did the front because I didn't feel "safe" about leaving my amps exposed and have one competitor or person mess up my gains) You never know!!

Back on topic at hand...

I left my van open at USACi World Finals/3X db drag show only to come back to my van with someone keying three of my woofer cones up!!!!!!! I even had a chair infront of my door to tell people they can look in but don't go past the chair that was securely pushed in that spot. The chair was removed and my subs were keyed!

I'm not reflecting this on db drag competitors at all but general public and spectators. There is nothing I can do about it but shut my doors. Then my paint would get keyed!!

Next year I will have my van 100% open(except for the drivers side door) but I will have a Do Not Enter barrier around it and someone wacthing. [Mad]

Anyways...that's my take on it.
