it is legal, but that is not duct tape. That looks like drywall tape that has been fiberglassed over for ridgity in the cone.

be careful. you run the risk of an unbalanced cone. May equal coil rubs if your spiders are not stiff enough.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the dents in the coil are from too much power and not enough control.

i use resin on my spider to former connection, not alot but a nice even coat and its worked very well for me

you forgot about the hairtricks he had done
and after he recond this sub with a not riënforced cone he blow up the cone directly next time he should start work earliër before an event to get his stuff working good

So, what you're telling everyone is that there is no "RISKS" when you alter a cone on the sub. The original post asked if there could be problems with doing what was shown in the pic. You don't have to get defensive about this. No one said that you shouldn't do it, so don't assume I think it was a balance problem. I just pointed out that there are unilateral rubs and a dent in the coil. Everyone else can be the judge on how it happend. Take care and happy holidays.
