The last update on the website was from the 26th, from Carla:
Mom has been moved to a regular private room out of ICU. Flowers aren't allowed back in that part of the hospital so please hang onto them for a while. I have had several people asking me where to send them. I'm bringing her laptop and blackberry to her tomorrow. She will be happy to be connected to the outside world again.
I'm sure she'll have LOTS of emails to read, and plenty more.

I sent an email, and got a response from Carla last night:
Not much to be said right now. I was waiting until she was released to the rehab center. Any day now. She is gaining strength. She was supposed to be released Saturday, but an infection in one of her hands from where the IV went in delayed it. The last few days have been waiting for the medication to take effect. Now she is further delayed by nausea. I think it's a combination of her allergies and the meds they have her on. Throwing up is not fun, even less when you are being held together with surgical thread. I will let you know more when I know more.

this is the latest update from Mike Jaffe..
quote: I just had an awesome visit with Alma at the rehab center in which she currently resides. She looks great, claims to feel good and has her fingers crossed to be able to head home on Wednesday. She claims the therapy and treatment she's been receiving there has her able to do things with her limbs that she's been unable to do for quite a while. I asked her to show me and all I got was a slap! I believe I heard her say something about "dirty old man."
I hope for her sake that she is able to keep herself slowed down for a while in order to facilitate a full and complete recovery. She's undergone a bunch and has emerged like the champion she is. I hope she can avoid her temptations to "overdo it" as has always been her style.

Thank you all..I do not want to go through that again! I had a doctors appointment on Tues. and they had changed one med. Nothing special. They had decided that my blood thinner was not working and my blood was too thick.
Wednesday morning, I could not get an accurate reading on my blood pressure. It was bouncing all over the place. I felt awful and called my doctor. I got hold of some dumb broad who in turn asked someone else and I was told that I needed to wait for my meds to kick in.
Well, by the time Carla got home from school, I was in serious trouble. Still not sure what to do, about 8-9 PM Carla called 911..They were here in a very few minutes. They hooked me up to IVs and oxygen and carted me off to the Arizona Heart Hospital. (My first trip in a fire ambulance..It appeared that the entire fire department showed up at our door. Talk about service!!
At the hospital, they got me sort of stable and admitted me about 4 AM. I got home around noon today and nothing looks as good as this dirty old house!!
Anyway, the word I was trying to find is Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation which means as best as I can understand - my heart was beating much too fast. I am now on a new medication that is suppose to control the beating. I go back on Tuesday to see what has happened.
I feel much better. They removed a lot of fluid from around my lungs. People, I don't mind telling you that I have never used my bladder that much ever and I have ANKLES!!!
Anyway, thank you all for your prayers and I hope I do not have to do this again. It really sucked and scared the heck out of me.
Finals is coming up soon and this is the first USACI final I have missed sind 1997. _________________ Alma Gates Team Gates

Thank you all. I went to the Hospital yesterday and they did all kinds of tests..Blood was 2.3 which is good - they like it to be between 2 & 3. Heart rate was good - pressure was a little high - but heck - going through all that is enough to make it high.
I am still sore in my chest but things have to heal. I was on one medication that made me cough and that really hurt. It was changed yesterday. Still coughing - Doc said it would take a few days to get it out of my system.
I do not want to go through that again. I do not have much energy or strength..Really sucks to walk across a room and be out of breath.
As for the burping - very few people in Arizona know about the Broncos. I haven't had them in Arizona in quite a while.
By the way, Jason will be bringing my rig and bronco home after USACI finals. That will be the end of my "car audio competition" career. It has been one heck of a run and I really appreciate all the support I have gotten from you all and the industry.
I really have mixed emotions on this one - I know its time, but I am going to miss not seeing you all throughout the year.
Thanks again for your prayers.
