I went through Wayne's Mondo Bass post and inserted the right dates. Here it is
quote:You must have a Certified Class by July 23rd, 2003. You obtain a Certified Class by competing in a multipoint event. You must place in the top 8 for your score to be recorded. On July 23rd, 2003, we will "lock down" a competitors Certified Class. In other words, you may not compete in another class after July 23rd, 2003. Your Certified Class is the class you will compete in at the Finals. A Certified Class is NOT attached to the vehicle. You may switch vehicles anytime during the season. However, you must compete in your Certified Class after July 23rd, 2003. Also, you will need to get another Certified Score (SPL) with the new vehicle. In addition, you will need to accrue at least 50 points with the new vehicle. Competitors may continue to improve their Certified Scores and accrue points until September 23, 2003.
Example:
Assume there is a competitor named Mondo Bass. He has aspirations to compete at the 2003 dB Drag Racing World Finals. He has developed an incredible design for a competition vehicle but it will take him most of the season to build it. His strategy for receiving an inviation is as follows...
1. He joined the dBDRA at the beginning of the season because the rule book states that he must be a member prior to July 23rd, 2003in order to be considered for an invitation.
2. He identified the class he would like to compete in at the World Finals. Mondo likes Bass so he has set his sights on the Extreme 9+ class. Even though Mondo's project vehicle isn't ready, he starts competing in Extreme 9+ with his old car. He also makes a point of going to a multipoint event before July 23rd, 2003 because he knows he must have his class certified by then.
3. By August 15th, Mondo has accumulated 63 points with his OLD vehicle. He was also able to win 3rd place in the Extreme 9+ class at a 2X event on July 20th (TRENDSETTERS). Therefore, his Certified Class is Extreme 9+.
4. Mondo's NEW project vehicle is ready to rock on July 25rd, 2003. He knows that at least 50% of the required points for 2003 must be earned with the vehicle he brings to Finals. For 2003, 100 points are required. Therefore, he must accrue at least 50 points with his new vehicle. He also knows that when you switch vehicles, your Certified SPL is reset to 0. Although he still has a Certified Class (Extreme 9+), he must now go out and accrue at least 50 points with his new vehicle. He must also attend at least one more multipoint event with his new vehicle in order to establish a Certified Score (SPL).
5. Mondo hits the circuit hard. At his first multipoint event with the new project vehicle, he places 9th due to a malfunction. Unfortunately, he doesn't receive any points OR a Certified Score. (Remember, you must place in the top 8.)
6. Since time is running short, Mondo starts attending every show within a 10 hour drive. He quickly accrues another 52 points. He now has a total of 115 points. This is more than the 100 point total required AND he has accumluated more than 50 points with his new vehicle. He has now met the points requirement for consideration by the dBDRA.
7. At this point, Mondo is a member, he has enough points, he has a Certified Class, but he doesn't have a Certified SPL. He had better hit some multipoint events fast!
8. Mondo hits another 3X event on September 14th (Possible OKC event). He places 4th with a 165.4 dB. He now has a Certified Score of 165.4.
9. After returning home, Mondo looks at the leaderboard and discovers that he is in 17th place in Extreme 9+ with regards to World Finals Standings. This is a real bummer because he knows that he must have one of the top 15 Certified Scores in his class in order to receive an invitation to the Finals.
10. Mondo hits the road again in search of multipoint events. It is now September 20th and he is in a do-or-die situation. This is the last multipoint event of the season (the season ends on September 23rd) and he must put up a big number if he wants to get an invitation to the Finals. HE DOES IT! Mondo hits a 170.3 and manages to win second place. Upon returning home, he checks the leaderboard and he is now in 7th place in his class.
11. Since Mondo was a member of the dBDRA prior to July 23rd, 2003, and since he established a Certified Class prior to July 23rd, 2003, and since he accrued a total of more than 100 points, and since he accrued more than 50 points with his project vehicle, and since his Certified Score (SPL) was in the top 15 in his Certified Class (Extreme 9+), he WILL receive an invitation to the World Finals.
Hope this helps.

so let me get this right i have a car in x1, i get a score in X1 and X2, but then i deside there this really sweet mini down the road from me i want to turn into a x1 car, but i deside this onjuly 25 a few days after the cerified score date. i build it and take it to a few shows right at the end of the year getting my 50 points. Can i know take this car to finals? or would i be stuck with the car i got score with befor the certified cutoff date?? the way i read mondo. it that the new car could go?? What the point of this date? all it really does is keep people from changing classes. I would rather have people change classes then build a new car right at the end of the year? maybe it just me Ok one last quick question let say i wanted to compete x9+ but the car is far from being ready for that class. Could i throw 10 af the finest loaded boxes from the showroom floor in my daily driver hit a double with that competeing in x9+ evan thou the car is far from extreme.. BUT that is the class i plan on being in. would that not be currimventing the rules?

Yes, as long as it is in either X1 or X2

Makes you go to events earlier in the year

yes, as long as you do so before July 23rd and also get at least 50 points with that car

9-5 " Competitors must be members of the dBDRA at least 60 days prior to the Season Cut-Off date (September 21, 2003) in order to be eligible for an invitation to the World Finals. I would be very upset if I was denied an invitation to the finals because I forgot to join the dBDRA. There is only 5 days left to join. CHECK YOUR MEMBERSHIP STATUS!!!!

Bumping this up because I am going to do what Mondo Bass did. I am pretty sure the example still applies in 2005.

Great story, damn near made me cry. You are going to have to write a part 2, so that we can find out how Mondo did at finals. It almost brought a tear to my eye when Mondo was in the do or die situation and came through, that was some deep $hit
