i am hoping to run super street 1-2 no wall but have a question about the cover on my truck
would i be allowed to run with the cover being non removable
the box will below the bedrails so the bed cover i made will not affect airspace
here is link to a pic of itweb page

the cover is the roof skin of a suburban that i cut down to fit the bed of my stepside and welded it fast to the bed and cab to make it seal
is this a problem or not in my class

That's all I got when I tried to get to your link, but you've got one of those SERIOUS grey areas, since Wayne said "no homemade truck camper shells" but yours isn't really 'homemade', it's just 'custom adapted' in my opinion, so this is definitely a Wayne question!

I think that shows alot of initiative, to make something "custom" for your vehicle. I do see where it does not add a lare amount of more space than a "store bought" topper would, but I also see a problem with allowing it to pass the regulations. If it is allow to pass the "no homemade" regulation, then others could/would use that as an example, to stretch the rule as it was intended. Others could begin building thier own "custom" campershells, bed toppers, or body modifications (overdoing it) while stating that, since yours was allowed, theirs should be allowed also.

PS. I like the topper, it shows a great deal of work and imagination.

The top does add air space but the box cant go over the bed rails of the truck so it dont add any to the box at all and the cut through is only as tall as the bedsides.
The bed sides measure 18 inches and the box will not go over them when it is finished.
The only reason i did this to my truck is because it very hard to find a factory made cover and very expensive when you find them.
Thanks for all the comments about the cover.

Well the thing is, the "no custom" rule was intended to make the fugly wood, or fiberglass 'homebrews' disappear, and also to help keep things on a fair level, so if you had one, everyone would also be able to if they chose, but in your case it looks like you simply made nearly an exact copy of what is available on the market, so I hope it is ruled legal since the hardware isn't homemade, simply adapted from a factory piece.

if you guys notice it CANT be remove either. that is probably the main reason he didnt use a commericially available one, because he actually welded the thing to the cab and bed. i would think db drag will approve it, because it is under the window like, and behing the door jamb.

I think it is bad ace, and should be allowed. It dosen't give you any advantage, in fact it would be very hard to change anything because it can't be removed for easy acsess. Good luck, hope it's legal.
