Can someone or everyone give me a clue to which head unit would be the best to use for dbdrag. I am currently using a Nakamichi 40z, but I am not sure if there is something else better.

I have used Panasonic since 1997 and have never had problems with skipping. Our head unit is located in the podium which is attached to the Bronco body and there's lots of vibrations.

I was in the street class last year. I started with a Panasonic and it skipped all the time. Got a Clarion and it never skipped at all. I was doin 156 on the old mics.

quote: Last year the day before i left for USACi finals i did extensive a/b tests on head units. I tried Alpine, Kenwood, Rockford Fosgate, Pioneer, and Panasonic. These were all top of the line or very close to it.
The Rockford was definately the best by quite a bit. Pioneer was 2nd!
As long as you are not in a street class. My Rockford 9120 skipped like mad and the remotes do not work thru glass!!! No way to burp outside of the car without getting creative. Posts: 1674 | From: Michigan | Registered: Nov 2002

Now that there are a few posts on head units..I think it's safe to say that products are products and they are all a matter of individual preference, taste, budget and what works best in your application.

I've always used Pioneer.I competed in super street where skipping isn't an issue(unless your not using a podium) but as far as reliability I have only had one Pioneer deck that had a problem and that was just with the volume button sticking in the up position sometimes.Even then it still worked.Thats not to say that no other companies make great decks but i've always been partial to Pioneer.

Alpine, I use a 7995, no skipping, and excellent features which come in really handy when competing. And it sounds better than any other deck I've tried.
