I felt the same way. We work so hard to promote a positive image and in one article - it goes away..However, people pay to come see freaks...and that is how this article made me feel - and people, I love what I do. I felt the same way with the Learning Channel coverage - Inventions People Love to Hate.
I have been told that any media coverage is good, but we still have our love and pride in what we do, and I really resent people condemning our activities when they know absolutely nothing about us! I didn't see anything mentioned about what our members do outside of car audio - like doctors, attorneys, policemen, military, teachers, students, families, etc. I suppose it's more interesting to sterotype us and be done with it.
Sorry for the outburst, but this type of article really bothers me and I suppose it shouldn't.

the real problem is that lawn mower racing offers a helluva lot more viewing entertainment than db drag does.
for db drag to become fun to watch, the whole format needs to change. It needs to become "racing," not burping.
it would require a change in the CD test material, along with changes to the testiing equipment. reaction times would need to become part of it too. also, change the format to a 5 or 10 second full octave sweep. (20-40, 30-60, 40-80, or 50-100). The score would be an average over the time. A late reaction would hurt your score (no sound). a false start would be a disqualification. just some ideas.......it would add some human interaction to our sport, some unpredictability, etc.
right now, the only unpredictability is that of "sandbagging."
