I have a question here about classes, recently here in the midwest I've been to a couple of DB Drag shows and there aren't many members at these shows so they are throwing all members in a 3+ categorie,I am a member and I had to compete against my friend,my friend had 12 12"in solo's and 6 Memphis 1000d's,I have 6 solo tens and three ZR600's,the next show I went to they were doing the same thing,so I said something and didn't get the answer I wanted and left without competing,I'm paying 20 bucks for entry,if I'm competing in ss-5-8 and no one else is in 5-8 does that mean I just get thrown with anyone?I'd kinda like the score for my class at finals,I don't know if this is common practice, but it seems a bit unfair to me.

From the dB Drag Racing Rule Book:
quote:2-5
The classes listed above are the recommended standard classes for dB Drag Racing. Typically, all of these classes will be offered at multi-point events. However, if there are fewer than 8 entries in a given class, or if the event is a single-point event, the show promoter may, at his discretion, combine one or more classes in order to fully populate the elimination brackets. In any case, the number of classes offered, and their specific breakdown, is at the discretion of the show promoter.
We do this so that you have an exciting elimination round. Whats the fun in being the only person in your class. I have personally asked Wayne in regards to this. He would rather see 3-4 full bracketed classes than 12 classes with 1 person per class. That is why classes are combined.

As a former mini-street competitor and "trying to be" national competitor this year, I would like to voice my opinion on the subject.
This is going to have a slant to it,cause I think the mini-street division is GREAT!!
I think the mini-street division, allows a learning curve. It allows you to learn the tricks and tips of SPL, and how much it will cost to be competitive at the national level
At 99.9% of Steve's shows (which I have not been to but one show that was run by Steve..), the local guys love it. The competion FAR surpasses what is available in the national classes. Not the high numbers..but the head to head scores. How many of you would go to the car drag races to watch one car fly down the lanes..not very fun in my opinion, if there is not another car next to it to compare to. (of course this is different at 2x and 3x..but those are SMALL percentage of total shows)
Steve has MANY followers of mini-street in Oklahoma. "Mr. Consistent" has been to almost every show this year, and won every time..with his street box. Ronnie Day of Weatherford has a GREAT showing of cars at his shows, and many followed most of the shows across the state during the Showdown. Chris of Advantage Audio spent the hours preceeding his show helping a mini-street guy with an install...wonder why ...probably cause that is where is his store makes income. David Baldwin has some amazing install cars puling excellent numbers in mini-street.
So all in all, one car doing some wierd stereo modifications, is probably not going to bring down the other 20 mini-street cars attending the shows to HAVE FUN.

I'm sure this has already been said, but here it goes..
I work at Competitive Audio here in Nixa/springfield,MO. And being one of the shops that truly supports dbdrag i must say that we average 30-40 cars a show. i can't think of too many others that can say that, hell you have multi pointers that only draw 16 or 20 cars, pretty pathetic if you ask me. Of those 30-40 cars we have at least 75% of them are mini street cars, i love the class and its great to see everyday customers competiting against each other. I believe wayne said that mini street rules are up to promoter/shop so it will vary everywhere. As for people who are whinning about 16volt, think about it, 4 8volts are normally cheaper than a really kick ass 12volt battery. And another thing if you have a problem with the 16volt mini street guy, build something 12volt to beat him and make your point. DON'T SING IT...BRING IT!
Mini street will spawn many new national competitors, give it time and i encourage some national guys to come out to single point shows a little more and work with the mini street guys, get them pumped up and excited. They would be so happy to recieve a few pointers from the big hitters, i know charles estes, leallan lockhart, and danny britain are always helping out the mini street guys..mmmmmm interesting..they are midwest people who want bigger participation..
Peace Big Ed

Regarding Jeff, yes he does run 16 volt for his daily driving and yes he pounds the hell out of his system everyday because he knows no better. So I would not consider this a strictly spl vehicle. Beside if you meet the guy he is nice and you probably wouldnt even care if he beat you!

he is an average guy with a wife and kids, a job and a CRX that competes in mini street FOR ANOTHER SHOP IN MY AREA!!! I personally think it's GREAT that he is doing what he is doing!! just because he is the first one to do it in mini street or atleast ADMITT to it you guy's all bag on him??? Thats BULLSH*T!!!!
OH AND As for TARA she did 146+ out of the trunk of a cavalier with a factory head unit so what are you gonna yell about now??????
she did 151+ on the old termpro at the beginning of the year, but wait her car was totaled and she now has a Bravada and she's getting LOUDER TOO!!!
In other words if your in street and can't do the numbers these competitors do then try something new!!! don't B*TCH!! GET LOUDER cuz thats what they do!!!!!!

I have a friend who runs MSD here in the midwest, so far, his best score is a 145.9 on the new meter. We built a box a long time ago just for him to listen to, he went to a couple of shows, and now we have built a completely different box for it 2 different times. He's planning to buy more power, more batteries, and more amps. Why? Because he enjoys competing! If he wants to run 16v, why does it matter? If he wants to wall off his truck, who cares? It's mini-street, it isn't for finals, it doesn't count for points, its for FUN!

Shane did a 142.7 on the new mics w/ 15 out of the trunk of a 86 Monte Carlo!!! Thats impressive! ( good lookin' car by the way ) Shane will tell you that most of the time you have to have a 142 or better just to qualify sometimes. Shane, Jeff, Brett and the others know they live in one of the loudest areas in the country. They respect that. They understand if they get beat, its because of the quality of competitors their apart of. They know if they went anywhere else, they'd stomp the competition.
Lets ask ... Shane, what do you think about Mini Street in the midwest?

Alright, First off I would like to thank the ppl who support me. Second, THE '89 CRX IS A EVERYDAY DRIVING CAR. SO IS THE '86 HONDA CIVIC THAT MY WIFE COMPETES WITH. Believe it or not. Every person starts out low and gradually gets louder. I did it very fast because I asked MANY questions to too many different ppl to name, but you guys know who you are, and very well appriciated. It has taken lots of time and lots of patience. But I have finally got loud. There are no rules for MSD, remember this is just FOR FUN. For all of you that are being "cry babies" I think Big Ed says it right...... DONT SING IT, BRING IT.. If you have anything to say or ask please reply to me a my addy. Thanks Jeff

hi, i am a mini street competitor....this is my first year competing, actually i just started in may
my current high is a 148.4....i expect a 150 at trendsetters july 20th
i am completely setup for street b and can do either mini or street.....
i run mini because this being my first year my main focus is on winning usaci stock....street b and usaci b-stock are different setups....if i was to build my bronco to the limit in street b, i would be adv stock in every other organization
i have had a lot of people try to get me to run nationally...but i dont plan on competing for finals in dbdrag this year, i will next year...i go to dbdrag because i think its the funnest organization of all
