I have just uploaded a new dBTV client with some really cool features. There are now 2 client programs. The standard client can be found at www.termpro.com/termlab/client.zip .
Please note: You MUST download the following file and install it before you will be able to run the extra features version of the client program. Be advised that this download is over 60 megs in size. No big deal if you have cable modem or DSL.

Maybe the name should be changed for people like me. Maybe call it the dbtv viewer or something like that instead of client. If I am the only one that is confused by little things, please ignore me.

I downloaded the "extra features" client, and installed the speech software. I have not adjusted the speech settings yet, so the voice sounds a little too digital. I will adjust the voice after I finish posting this. While using the 3.06.28 version, I keep getting a pop-up that reads "A new Term-LAB.NET Client is available. Please go to www.termpro.com to download the latest version". Anyhow, keep up the great efforts and I will repost after adjusting the settings.

I changed the voice to Microsoft Mary (from the default Microsoft Sam) and it seems to sound "not as" digital. but, with the pop-ups, I am unable to check the channel status. Everytime it starts to scan the channels, the pop-up resets the command. The servers shows to be online, but I am unable to test any other functions of the new client software (due to the pop-up).
Will this new voice feature allow the viewer to get instant updates and/or broadcast? What I mean by this, will there be someone on the other end (at the events) who will be typing messages so that the text-to-voice software will allow us to hear the broadcast?
Thanks for bringing the "new update" issue to my attention.
You can go to www.termpro.com/termlab/clientexe.zip and get just the executable to fix this on your system. Just extract and copy to your c:\program files\termlab client folder. I have updated the full download (clientspeech.zip) so that anyone else that downloads the file won't have that problem.
You are correct. Microsoft Mary is the voice you should use. I thought I had that specified as the default. How did you change your voice?
The new client talks all throughout the event. It says competitor names, classes, spl's, time remaining, etc. It even announces the winner for elimination rounds.
You guessed it with regards to the "live announcer." I wanted to do this last year but Stenographers were like $500 an hour. We'll see what we can do this year. Maybe just a typist that continually types what they hear over the PA.

Thank you. The patch worked as designed. As for changing the voice, I used Start -> CONTROL Panel -> Speech. When trying to open the speech folder, there is an error message that the engine cound not be created. By selecting ok, it directs back to default settings. Simply select the voice you want to use, and adjust the speed to fit your listening pleasure.
As for the instant broadcast. may I make a suggestion. With the client having text-to-voice software, why not have the host using voice-to-text software. With the voice-to-text software, the judge could speak normally into a microphone and the software would translate his words into text. Then the text could be linked through the client software so that the end user would hear a digital remastering of the judges voice. By doing it this way, it should not take up excessive amount of bandwith and still allow the "live" broadcast to stream with relatively good quality. Plus, it would eliminate the cost of paying someone to type the messages. Again, just a suggestion.

Ok that is BAD ASS!!! It calls out the scores as if you were there! Then at the end, it tells you who the winner is. During the run, it tells you how much time is remaining.
The coolest part yet is when you e'X'it the program, it says Thanks Commander!
Totally Cool !!!!

One thing I would like to add. Since dB Drag racing is world wide, the addition of speech to the client can be a very useful tool. By changing the default speech origin, the text messages can be heard in many different languages. Even though I am unable to understand other languages, it was interesting to hear the announcments in various languages (other than US english). Again, Wayne, you have created something that pushes dB Drag racing to the next level. Thank you.
