I started competing in 2000. I bought 2 15" solobarics and could punk any other kid on the street. That summer I heard about a bass comp beign held at a CircuitCity I showed p late so I was unable to participate. A couple of weeks later there was another comp in Austin Tx. so I made the hour and a half drive out there. In my class(1-2 ss) alone there were 15 cars there. I qualified 8th and got handed a 10dB whoopin by SPL JESTER. Since then I have read many books on sound wave theory, ported/bandpass enclosure design, and a lot of late fees at a library that as a kid I swore I would never go there by myself. I have made friends with numerous employees at the near by Home Depot. All in the pursuit of gaining dBs so that one day I can say that I competed with the best.

We don't have a lot of dBdrag shows in Texas anymore so I do USAC. It is fun there is nothing wrong with it except that it is not where the best of the best play. An invite to the dBdrag World Finals means so much because it is not easy to get you have to be one of the best. If that was not the case the why even bother calling it World Finals.

Ya know... I'm really good at biting my tongue, but this is seriously out of control.

Everybody wants to be a winner, but they don't want to put the effort into it. Not that I'm saying you DON'T put effort into your systems, but you have to ask yourself when is it time to take it to the next level. If you are SERIOUS about competing, and you have a couple of tens in street A, then get a couple of twelves. Read the rules... you're allowed to take out your seats in extreme, you don't hear extreme class guys wanting rule changes because they want to keep their seats in.

"There are big dogs in every class"
Well, DUH! There is ALWAYS going to be a winner.
In the olympics, you can't whine and say, awww... all the guys in the 100 meters are too fast, they should make like a 22 meter run because I can run faster that way.
That is ridiculous.
Besides, if you change the rules, there will still be whoopings, and there will still be big dogs, there will still be 10 dB gaps. The SMART ones will figure out how to get loud with a single 12 and 500 watts... no two ways about it.

If you choose to drive your vehicle daily, that is your choice, and a sacrifice in a way. If you choose to have a stereo for some nice daily listening as well, chances are you won't be quite as loud.

I chose not to drive my vehicle... in fact, I don't drive at all, because I modded my only vehicle so much, it can't drive. That was the sacrifice I was willing to take. I opted for more SPL and got hit with a major transportation limitation. I was ready for the next level, if you are too, then you'll figure out a way to get louder.

Whining about the rules and changes is not going to solve anything.

If they made a single sub class with a 500 watt and amateur cap for next year... I will find a way to make my little brother loud. There are no rules about ME making MY BROTHER loud... see the loopholes? There will always be winners, big dogs, and people who like to complain because they can't (or most likely, won't) put the effort into being that big dog.

 - While I agree with a lot of most of the posts in this strand, what I believe would answer this concern/gripe of yours, DAILYDRIVEN, is State Championships.

Not that the names of those invited to Finals should be taken from the State Champions list, just that it would be a cool thing to have toward the end of each season.

Kind of like a 'mini-Finals'. It could even be designed to exclude those invited to the World Finals so that the next loudest class of competitor would have a chance to win a fairly major event which, no doubt, would attract the best of each state.

It could even be set-up to include only competitors who have earned an invitation to it by having X number of points/dB level, and only from the same state...???

I could see it maybe being a 4X event, and the World Finals being a 5X, but add the points from the State Championships to the next season...???

- But I agree that there are a lot of regular street level competitors who might be motivated to work a little harder, but still within their means, IF there was a little lower level challenge offered than the World Finals, and who knows- if they did well at the State level they might then be motivated to work seriously over the next season in the direction of the World Finals. I think the state finals, or at a minimum "regional" finals, will become a big thing for next year. If we manage to have a "true" world finals via the net, we are going to almost HAVE to offer a regional championship type thing. You think its hard to place well at the finals now, imagine adding in all the strong vehicles oversea's at the same time?

My biggest gripe is that there is no points curve for finals invites [Frown]

People in my area are some of the loudest in probably the country. But does anyone ever notice it? No! We have ZERO db drags within a 400 mile radius for the entire season! So does that mean we shouldnt have a chance to make it to finals? It would literally cost me hundreds of dollars just to attend ONE event. Its just not feasible for me to even bother with db drag. Thats why I've switched my main focus to a different organization. In that one, at least I'll have a chance to make it to finals.

haha... dude.. i had no idea....hehe...and do I not have as much fun now, as i did then? hehe...

oh.. and your points WILL count.. you have to join dB Drag and become a MEMBER... your points are retroactive.. meaning... all the shows you've gone to ( this year) up until you become a member , you get all those points... so there is no reason you can't join.

but i disagree... getting an invitation to world finals, just because you got the 100 points required?? I have to disagree with you on that one.

I didn't say that. I believe the system that is in play right now is great. If you have the points and are in the top 15 in the world you get to go. If you have the points but aren't in the top 15 try harder next year. If every one got invited then World finals would lose some of its prestige.

Has anyone thought about a rule that states you must have speaker wires open for measurment for the run and use cone area and power combined for classes? Taking a direct and exact measurement takes about 2 seconds and would place the people with equal power used on the subs in the same class no matter the amp, or money spent on the system. Pyramid power or Zapco power, would not matter.

You mean like taking the impedence from each amp? Not a bad idea.

ss5-8 0-5,000 @4ohms
ss5- 8 - 5,000 - 20,000 @4ohms
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; 20,000and up

Wattage caps were tried in the past, the problem with that is that you are relying on something that is completely arbitrary from the manufacturer to classify competitors. What is to stop companies from making a 2000 watt amp rated at 50 watts. This is already a large problem in USAC competition and is very difficult to police. It also requires all show promoters to verify the ratings of the amplifiers by some book or manual. The number of woofer classification is much easier as if you can't could to 9 then you shouldn't be judging a dBDrag show. Note I said easier, not more fair.

That takes 12 classes to 22 classes. It is hard enough to fill 12 classes at finals, let alone 22. If you want to make it easier on yourself to go to finals, then USACi, MECA, and NSPL are the way to go. Db Drag is for the best of the best. Power classes will never work, take your 0-5000 watt at 4 ohm class. That means I can have 10 15's and 80 amplifiers in that one class if I run 50 watt at 4 ohm Mark Antony's (not sure on the model). There has been talk about no more than 1 amp per sub in previous rule's discussions. The problem with that is it keeps people from buying product which is what db drag is all about for retailers.

This is just how I see it.

Yes.. everyone come to MECA, or NSPL, or Usaci.. its so much easier.. [Roll Eyes]

db draggers are so much better.. and smarter.. and therefore can carry attitude as such..

There are bunches of people in the above named orgs.. that possess as much knowledge / more than alot of people in db drag.. But are limited to smaller classes, and organizations, due to money limits, etc..

You guys are lucky enough to be able to afford the equipment, and sacifice the time to run around the country for points.. or In some of your cases.. have all the equipment you desire dropped at your door...

Doesn't mean us 'other' competitors are on a lower level...

Just my worthless nickel... I didn't have change..

DISCLAIMER The above comments were in no way, directed at any singular member upon this thread, and were merely an attempt to comment on the generalization that the above org's are for 'less capable' competitors. I speak solely for myself, and not for any of the companies whose equipment I use, nor for any companies I represent online, and off.

I also want to state that I hold the utmost respect for anyone out in the lanes, whether its whitlee, or Db drag. Do it for the love, not for the fame.
