We will judge shows for free on new mics. We will do 1x events in 3 states for free to promote dB drag racing. The store must me a member of dB drag racing for it to be a sanctioned event.

I'm bumping this because of the "death to dB Drag" topic!

I think what you are doing is great, BUT if dB drag is dying in some areas it's because of lack of support by dB draggers and shops in those areas.
I mean look in certain parts of the country different orginizations are more dominate than others.
some states dBdrag is the thing, some have NSPL, some have USACI, some have MECA and so on and then some shops just don't care about competition at all they are after the all mighty dollar bill and thats it.
I hear people bitch all the time how they have to drive 4 hours to a show? Whats the problem? if you are not willing to drive 4 hours to a show then YOU do not support this sport!!!!
there are some of us that travel that on average just to go to shows.
I remember before 1998 there were NO shows in the springfield, mo. area, there are now becuase we as competitors have showed retailers how much we love this sport, it dominates us and consumes us, dBdrag is a drug!!!!! and it's legal. so the only problems i see are lack of showing your local retailers how much you all love this sport. they cannot read your mind you have to tell them. I am a reatailer and a competitor and proud to be both!!!!!!! As soon a i got my buisness license I bought my retailer membership and booked the max amount of shows allowed by a single shop. I will not make any money at any of these shows!!! I will lose money doing these shows, i don't do dB drag for money! I do it for my customers, for the joy of dB drag and the love of the sport!!!
I can remember when Aaron {CHILI} roberts the rest of team pure sound, my wife and myself would sadle up for 24 hr trips to go to shows on a regular basis, we were releaved when some trips only took 12 hours and then we would be back at work on time tired but on time!!!!!
so I guess i am asking everyone to stop crying and do something with what has been givin to you by H.O. alternators and get to your local retailer and let them know this is free what better time to try or even start having drags again.
I mean the reatail membership is worth it to me as a retailer i display my certificate on my wall soon as you walk in you see it.
well i could go on forever about this but i wont.

I agree that this is most excellent and is a wonderful show of manufacturer support. I am surprised that more people haven't posted regarding this showing their support for this manufacturer and the ideas and opportunities they have presented for you the competitor and you the retailer.
So those of you complaining about not having shows "locally" or "within X amount of hours" get on it - make some phone calls - do what you gotta do. Griping about it isn't helping!
AND - if for no other reason - do it because the support and opportunities given will not last long - if you guys don't support the manufacturers and those WILLING to give you these opportunities they will realize that THEY are not being supported and will STOP making these offers.
That being said, have a GREAT weekend, and contact your local retailers!!!

last weekend i hit the closest comp to me this season. it was a usaci. sinlge on sat and triple on sunday. it was a mere 1.5 hours each way. next closest this year was 6 hours each way. also a usaci. and another at 6 hours each way also a usaci. of course these were multi point events which helps, but still.... that is a whole lot of driving if you ask me. how can a person buy equipment, and drive to shows this far away and upkeep on the car/truck/suv. as well as work a job to pay for all of this. that is alot of cash. i am doing it now but who knows if i will next year. and the cheasey trophies. why not cash back in our pockets? or gift certificates? or something.
the single point drag in mankato, mn this weekend is the closest drag to me and that is prolly 5-6 hours each way. wait i take that back there is another dratg in winnipeg, manitoba, canada in late aug that is only 2.5 hours each way. but other than that no drags around me that are close.
i tried several times last year to get the local shops to see there is an interest in sanctioned comps. then this year when i joined drag and usaci i have kept in touch with them about where i am going and even offered up a ride to go along with to see what is there and in the area for competitors. but no go from the shops. they continue to say there is no interest for sanctioned in the area. but yet they continue to hold local comps with 30-40 competitors showing up for that. this weekend is the 3rd local this summer. by local i mean by one of the 3 places in town here that sell car audio gear.
i just do not get it.
what do we need to do?
the shops advertise on the radio, with flyers and give away door prizes. and well all of that cannot be cheap. hell it cannot be really any different than what a sanctioned event goes through for cash to promote an event. can it?

Rick is the decision maker on what shows we attend. I will say that we've traveled 7 hours to a 3x in KY, 5 hours to a 1x in Nixa, MO; we traveled 5 hours to Cape Girardeau, MO....All 3 shows in 3 days....We drove more than we slept! So, NW MN is doable.

right now i am working on something to pass along to the local shop with info on all the comp orgs, rules, class's, interest i have seen from web forums, this thread and so on.
there was quite the argument at the local comp yesterday about them using the drag logo and linkin the drag site for more info. yet they use their own slack rules and mic placement and so on. even after i got some rule clarifications some of the rides were not legal, but yet they were allowed to take trophies.
sooo
i am gonna do my best for education and see what comes of it.
i am not gonna be too picky about what shows up. usac is more prevalent, but drag or meca would work as well.
