Just my 2 cents worth for a better finals in 2002, Wayne Harris put on a great show and my hat goes off to him for a great job.
This list is not of just my own but of other competitors and manufactures of car audio.
1. Tennesee is no place for world finals, there is nothing going on there, and the manufactures felt that, poor choice of location led to poor spectator attendance. Wayne will see this point very well when he visits Toronto for Audio Thunder!!!
2. All the lights and Glits and glamour, way over done, Spend less on this and have a larger payout for prizes. Finals "IS" about the competitors right?
3. The dinner a definate + and well thought out

1. I think Nashville is very centralized to the competitor. I also think that the manufacturers are there to support the competitor and aren't looking for great spectator draw for the money they spend on finals booths.
2. I agree that there was way too much "theatrical fog"
3. The banquet was awesome!!!! Great time to network with other competitors etc.

I thought nashville was great, and should continue to hold finals there. Great nitelife and everything is close.
I think if wayne gets some ideas about manufactures and products being used across, you will see more manufactures having booths and all. Give it time dbdrag is still young we grow year to year.
As for the fog show, i think we could cut that down some...i did feel the competitors were pushed to the side, side of the stage that is.. seemed like they made the bikini contest and dj more important than the cars, i know that isn't the intention, just my observation.. Lets see some more interviews with competitors in the lanes and what not.. that way the crowd can get to know a little about the competitor and car.

We are already committed to Nashville for 2002. Contracts, etc. have already been signed.
In 2001, we worked hard to improve the attendance to the show. This is how the dBDRA recovers it's investment. Unfortunately, the 911 attack had a dramatic impact on shows across the country. (Our event was only 3 weeks after 911.) Each year we try different tactics regarding getting people through the door. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. We definately spent a lot of money in 2001 on things that didn't pay off. We just have to chalk it up as experience and move on.
Thanks again for you feedback.

dB Drag final should be held anywhere in the USA never in one place. It's boring for spectator seeing samething over and over therefore not all the spectator likely return. To attract more spectator it should be hold else like Las Vegas, Nevada or on West coast.
It doesn't matter there are more competitors on the East coast all competitor pay the same prize to get in.

Thats not exactly true. The Nopi Nationals are held in atlanta, GA every year. And every year it only gets larger. this year the show was only a few days after the WTC tragedy, and turnout was still huge.

Heck yeah vegas would be nice...but i think the more central location is a little better for traval, kind of makes it an even plain for all who have to travel. I thought nashville was a great town. I would like to see it go back to Louisville,Ky one year because i had a good time there 1999.

It was my first time to Nashville , it was overwhelming to say the least, staying in a luxuery hotel meeting some of you the worlds finest and loudest. the fog was overboard, and it was so loud in there i couldnt hear myself think, i have duel exhust on my s10 blazer with a 350 in it cherry bomb mufflers and @ 2000 rpms you couldnt hear the truck over the music i couldnt even hear the judges . it left me and others in the dark. hear we are trying to concentrate and the music is so loud you cant think.also we (you ) should of done a meet and greet i dindt get a chance to meet half the people i wanted to especialy the forum users other than that banquet was sweat thanks Wayne that showed class especialy giving away those awsome leather jackets to the points champs , I want one hehehe, you should do some sort of tribute to new york in the next couple years to remember 911 .just my thoughts for now- jeff

My overall thoughts of Finals is that it was the best yet...we were a little short on the manufacturers, but Wayne made up for it with the stage and lightshow, etc. I thought this was a great idea, and I know it was alot of work, and should definetly be used again, but only to a varying degree to fill in the gaps. Yes the music was definetly TOO LOUD FOR TOO LONG. But if any of you were at the 98 Finals, it was the other end of the spectrum...way too quiet(music wise) but with alot more competitor interviews in the lanes (most done by Wayne). A couple of peeps hit on it here, youve got to have a dedicated DJ(s) that can work the crowd all the time, letting them know who is in the lanes, what class they are running in, what their previous scores for the show are so far, equipment totals, interviews, etc... Wayne did this with a couple of the MAD guys last year? I think the most important part of making even the smallest show succesful is to have a guy (or girly) that knows how to work the mic out there getting people into the show! When we have our show at the shop each year, my partner and I take turns doing shots of ice cold vodka and really getting into DJing the show. It works! I mean anybody that was at Carlisle this year will tell you how bad it can get...here we are at a huge fairgrounds packed with about 4000 imports, good weather, good food, 25,000 people just looking around for something cool to watch. I waited behind 20HZ Audio as they staged in the lanes...TO SILENCE! So they proceed to put up a 172.6 and there everyone is looking at their feet and walking away...they had no idea what that score was or what it meant! And it was not just them, you had Jaime DeLapaz, Chris Norris, Kara Lucious, Shaker, and other VERY LOUD people that got no introduction, no interview, and no justice! But remember, its not us that really count, its all the people that walked over that weekend because they were initially interested in seeing what was going on, and ended up leaving because it seemed boring. The same is true for all shows including Finals. The main thing here is that you have to have the perfect mix of music, competitor info, and a good mic person that all compliment each other...it makes even a smaller show seem like a major event! By the way my nominations for the Ultimate dB DJ Team include: Shaker, Chris Norris, Griz, Wayne, and MYSELF! I never heard Harshburger go off, but Ill take your word for it and put him in the lineup.....I think we could use a little Chili too, dont you?

Im in TN and alot of my customers were at the finals, most have said it was "pretty cool" they just really had no idea what was going on. I really liked the interviews from years befor it gives the spectators alittle info about the competitors and the equipment they use, alot of vehicles were wide open for show some had people around them ready to show anyone who asked what they had, a few were locked up with no one in sight. The music was too loud for myself when i was in lanes i couldnt hardly hear the judges i didnt even hear my own truck when i burped it, It was a great year finals was great but i agree maybe the interviews would help give the spectator alittle more info and understanding about the competitors , Loud Music is great between runs but during the run i think the only thing to be heard is the seperating/rattling of sheet metal ,lol just my 2 cents.

I would probably wouldn't be able to understand Shaker over a microphone, as I can barely understand him talking face to face with him. I was at Loves Park where Norris MCed and he did a great job. Griz seemed to do a great job at 2000 finals and I'm sure Wayne could get the job done. And as for you, Frank, I'll have to take your word if you've been around Norris, you know what to do.
As for as adding Chili to the mix, things might get a bit messy, anyone from the midwes' knows you shouldn't mix chili and fun dip
