Before I influence my friends to go out and purchase a minivan, Astro or Caravan, will competitors be allowed to place their enclosures right behind the front doors like last season?? I need to know soon, before my friends go out and purchase their vans.

I think what Mike was referring to is that of the REGISTERED db drag members on this site, and only those that have listed their class, 34% of them are in the 2 street classes, with only 13% in the extreme classes. The street guys outnumber the extreme guys nearly 3 to 1, yet they get only 30 invites instead of the 80 that extreme get. There was a really long out discussion with this, and I really don't want to get into it again, but I can find the exact numbers and the post if you're interested.

TERRY...what are you doing in no wall? 2 RFL's and 8 1000D's? Damn 161.3 is damn loud, is that with the box facing backwards still or forwards? And how are you using the crate they shipped in as a box?

no caravans in street class would solve 95% of the problems and keep the rules the same!

Some people DO however have minivans as daily drivers.
My suggestion to the judging staff is to keep the boxes located behind rear-most doors, and seats in the vehicles. This will make the playing field more level (it will never be perfect no matter what we do) - suvs and vans will still have plenty of area to build in, and plenty of space for boxes, but will eliminate street-behind-the-seats with 20 cu.ft boxes.
Perhaps a limit on box size in street?
Added suggestions
- if you begin the season in another class, you cannot move backwards into street.
- no commercial vehicles in street (ie cargo vans, etc.)

I can assure everyone, that the judging staff and those working on the rules for 2002 know about the issue of minivans ( commercial vehicles )in street.
Our goal is too make that class fair for those involved. The rules can only get better, please be patient.

I don't think its just about minivans and commerical (cargo vehicles). It is the rule where if the seats are not in the vehicle, then they are not counted at all. I would suggest changing this to that if the seats are not in the vehicle, then the box must not extend any further forward than the rear door jambs(C pillar) of the rearmost side doors. If the vehicle only has one rear door, then a framing square or line of sight could be used to determine the compliance.

that sounds more reasonable.

Just get rid of the crappavans and it would be a very good class then (street class as it should be ) or yes jsut let them be used if the box is behind the sliding door that way it is not really a half wall hehehe

i think if you were trying to kill db drag this would be the way to do it. we started out in ss3-4 (hitting 145) we competed at 2 shows(would have been 3, but we didnt qualify at one), then sold our JL 12w0's and bought 2 shockers, which as you know are a bit better then jl w0's. we were beginers in the jeep, and beginers in the caravan.
