Should there be a ROOKIE OF THE YEAR CATEGORY. If so, how would it be determined? Could it be determined by avergage spl?, finish at finals, nominated by fellow competitors or the number of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes.
If we had it for 2001, who would have won it and why?

Another good idea Sam. Average spl would be low for someone who made huge gains throughout the year. Max spl would only work if you had 1 rookie from each class because their max spl would be somewhat limited by there class. The number of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes is good but could be won easily in an area with not much competition in a particular class. So I say it should be voted on, but we need to find a way to keep it honest. No voting for yourself 500 times online!

My vote goes towards Paul...simply look at the huge gains he's made this year. From a 160.? and 4th place at SBN to 2nd and a 172.8 at Finals (and possibly a new world record).

Awesome idea Sam, and I think we may have talked about this, I think the WHOLE picture should be considered, like where they started, how many weekends they competed and where they travelled to, their contribution to promoting dB Drag in a positive light, how much they HELPED other competitors and "Newbies" and most important, their overall ATTITUDE. It isn't just how LOUD or how nice their ride looked, but the WHOLE picture. Posts: 884 | From: Utica, Mi USA | Registered: Jun 2001

If this was something to happen at 2002 finals...what about having a ONLINE nomination poll. Then, at finals, the top three (or how many DBDRA elects to choose) would be drawn from the list of nominees, and the winner would be decided by "audience participation".

i like it! but it needs to be for good sportsmanship also, unless we have a seperate award for that too. i think sportsmanship is a must,if you can't be nice to the guy that just beat you or even if you beat him there still needs to be respect in the lanes and out of them.

i like the idea of the competitors and judges nominating the Rookies Of The Year, and then have everyone vote on the top 10 (?) nominee's. i think that the voting should be done through regular mail, or you should have to use your competitor i.d.'s, to prevent somebody "rigging" the vote.

Thing is, some of these guys have competed in years past, therefore couldn't be considered "rookies.
Such as, I didn't see anyone of these guys competing a significant amount in DB Drag in the years past. Reason I didn't put Mike Sharika is becauase he competed a lot last year. Please let me know of the 10 guys above who has competed a lot in years past. Thanks.

Thanks for the nomination Josh. But looks like I didn't make the cut. As far as me not being a "rookie" this year, I did three shows last year not knowing the rules, and having a store baught, store built system. This year I designed and built my own. Anyways, I think this is a great idea and I like all the guys on Josh's list. Glad I got to meet a number of them at finals as well.

Mike I was typing in the names alphabetically and your name was last on the list. The polling software has a "pain in the azz" feature where you have to select a number of answers allowed before you type them in. I had typed in the number 9 instead of 10. You know you would have made the cut.

Ya I saw that and I had decided if you did more than 5 shows the previous year, you were not a rookie. Kinda like a set limit. Plus you had the loudest trunk car at finals so I had to add you on there. Hope you change your mind and compete next season to Mike.

It's no biggie Sam. Josh, as far as competing in 2002....I don't think it will be happening for a # of reasons. My wife and I are expecting another child around Christmas so my time will be focused on the family , I don't have the money for the equipment needed to be competitive and I drove my wife crazy taking off every weekend. I would really like to try and be competitive from the trunk in "No Wall" with 12's but only time will tell.

Great idea Sam. Your awesome. My vote goes to Tim Tower in the x 1-2 class. He gained 19 db's from SBN to finals in his first year competing.

my suggestion- most points by rookie in all classes - tho most are street or super street.
the organization in everyones ****list, does it by highest score at finals, but with drag, that's not quite fair (that one's got 6 novice classes) in drag.

sorry , but my vote goes to john hicks. not because he is on my team. because he went threw some really bad medical probs as alot of you might remember,he overcame them and got back in the game, and the whole time he was in the hospital he was worried about dB drag.
think about it this guy was unable to compete for a total of neerly two months and he still made it to finals, and he was the only suv at finals in the top 8 and he gained over 10 db this year from 142 to 154.7 thats a good jump.
thats my take.
oh yeah josh nice pic of iske in your sig.
