If you guys didnt have the rule book memorized then how did you come across a rule that wasnt even in there? No onffense just wondering. If you are going to enforce a rule, you should at least know every single part about it. Thanks

If not memorized at least have a copy in the lanes to show exactly why the rule applies. Just a suggestion for next year, finals is over and done, no use crying over spilt milk.

Ahhh, I finally start to see the answer. I have had this posted in a few different posts for a few days now.
So, it was an oversight by the judges that affected one car greatly, and presumably 2-3 more in a similar fashion.
I do agree, the judges should know the rule book inside and out. I haven't judged a show all year (helped at one) and I know just about every little thing in there.
I guess the thing that bugs me the most is that this exact and very very specific ruling was listed in the rule book. It wasn't inferred or an application of another rule. It was plainy written into the rule book. Black and white. Also, if I was told right, Matt asked for a requalify based upon this information and was denied. Can someone shed some light on this? Was this a second mistake?

We possibly mis-interpreted a rule that IS in the book.
We had as many as 6 rulebooks in the lanes.
Matt did you bring your rulebook? Did you show the question and answer section to one of the judges?

Yes, actually, I did find a rule book, took it to one of the officials.. not sure what his name was, it wasnt brantly, steve, or dave, but the 4th guy..
he said a rule is a rule.. and i pointed it to him. He said the decision was final. I asked for a rerun and he said NO. Then i went and asked sam horn to talk to brantly for me since sam was the only one with his head on his shoulders at the moment, I plainly asked him if i could requalify based on the circumstances and he went and asked brantly or whoever and they said NO.
so based on all that, i feel I was mistreated and well, greatly affected by a miscall and well, wasted $150 because the judges decided to make up their own rule because they were not prepared...
Wayne or anyone else feel to shed some light on why i got screwed?

You answered your own question. They missed it.
May I recommend the judges and dbdra figure out a GURANTEED WAY to make sure this doesn't happen next year or ever again. PLEASE WRITE IT INTO THE RULE BOOK FOR ALL TO SEE ALL YEAR LONG.
That's a pretty costly mistake.

I don't want to second guess the officiating staff. I know they were trying their hardest to enforce all of the rules. To me, the example in the rule book is very clear. But then, I actually wrote the rule so I already have a preconceived notion of what the rule was stating.
I did talk to one of the judges today and he explained that they thought that the example intended for the seat to be able to move all the way forward and backwards. Ultimately, the misinterpretation is my fault because evidently, the rule is not as clear as it could have been.
I am sorry it happened to you, Matt. Jeff, you have been a valuable asset all season long with regards to rules, their wording, and their interpretation. It is so ironic that this had to happen to one of your guys.
The rules get better each year. The downside is that the rulebook gets thicker each year. (I remember when ALL of the rules for dB Drag Racing would fit on a single piece of paper.) As the rulebook gets thicker, it is going to get increasingly more difficult to know every single rule in the book verbatim.
Once again, I am sorry about this situation.

Thanks wayne, I realize its too late to do something about it now, but hopefully you can correct it for the future. It just seems like I wasted all year and the $150 for finals on a "mistake"..

well I know it sucks for all 3 people that got screwed (myself included) but I am surprised that this post has reappeared...I would love my $150 but at least I got the experiance of finals and even though I didn't qualify I tried to help out some fellow Canadians in any way I could. Perhaps next year SAM HORN will be head judge...personally I think he is a far better man for the job. either that or Brantly should do every triple pointer next year so we have a chance to adjust to his interesting rules before world finals
