Just when I was writing a reply, Steve closed the topic. I feel that I have a good point, this is why I started a new topic. Here is the text I was going to add to the closed topic:

Sorry but I really do not see the point of having the certer console exactly in the center of the car.

I belive the idea of having it centered is from the first draft rules where console width was limited and there were no limits to the driver and passanger sides. So it was needed to have the console in the center of the car in order to keep driver and passanger sides open enough.

But now when rules state that there must be more than 13" open space on both sides I see no need to have the console centered in the car. There will be enough space on both sides no matter what. Having the console a little of center is not going to change that. Also I fail to see any gray areas in this.

Why make things more complicated than they need to be? How about this:

- Center console cannot be higher than dashboard.
- Minimum distance from the center console to the door panel is 13"

Simple, easy to judge, no gray areas, no problems?

Makes perfect sense to me too.

I think the other was closed because it seemed like everyone was arguing about how to "find" the middle of the car.

It would leave the ability to have maybe more room on one side to drive, etc than you have on the other, but very easy to police still
