The rules do not say if the dash in an extreme car must extent to the windshield also it doesn't say anything about holes in the dash(which i think Wayne said was illegal).
quote:Originally posted by Wayne Harris: The dash must go all the way to the firewall / windshield. No holes. Completely solid. I'll check on this wording in the next revision.

My only concern is that I had to make the dash shorter on the driver's side in order to allow the steering wheel to turn:
Because of this the dash stops just short of the pillar on the driver's side. In order to comply with the new rule we'll have to extend the steering collum and build the dash out FURTHER.
Wayne, would you consider the existing dash compliant, even though the last 2 inches on the drivers doesn't technically reach?

i know dash ,and footwells and ceiling to floor hieght seems to be issue , i like alot of designs seen by the overseas competitors ,dashes at a angle say from bottum of windshield down 1-3 inches all the way accross the dash and no footwells with the dash to the floor at angles ,i say use 30 inches from floor to ceiling let the dash be angled and make sure the two seat rule be applied ,that way you could control some ,this is my two cents right now ,it seems not to matter thanks

whats the depth of that dash??? center and edges??
just wondering
I talked to wayne not sure if you are going to be able to do what you have done.
People pushing the rules is going to limit the designs.
I would vote 6" min to 16" max in depth and dash can be unequal front to rear when looking down from above. then your setup would be legal.
I suggest to everyone if you want this change better speak up.

· The trailing edge of the dash (the edge of the dash that faces the passenger compartment) must be straight and perpendicular to the centerline of the vehicle when viewed from the top.
your dash isn't straight when viewed from the top thus its not legal. IMO of the rules

"· The minimum depth of the dash in the center of the vehicle shall be 6 inches when measured from the edge of the dash to the windshield. The maximum depth shall be 16 inches."
not sure if that includes the bottom of the dash and is your lower part of the dash more than 16" deep???

the angled ramp up to the dash surface would be alright IF the rod test could be complied with at all places. From the looks of it, it could not, therefore that would make it illegal. In addition, you are to have a flat (horizontal) surface with 12" of clearance all directions of the sensor. The way the top dash surface is angled does not allow for this compliance.
Many people will ahve to rebuild dashes. We will. I know it is a pain and in some cases, expensive and difficult.

I say this now ,it's not fun that the rules are changed a month before competition. I think it is better to change the rules on the end of the season so people can rebuild their cars for the new season to come, I know a lot of people have to rebuild their car for the new rules so they can compete ! I don't think it is funny to change and spend a lot of money to change to have a car that goes by the new rules ...
