Preliminary Class Changes for 2004 Not for Publication Not Finalized January 5, 2004
The following is a list containing some of the proposed changes for the 2004 rules. This is NOT the final draft (as it will appear in the rule book). The rule book will be worded much more concisely. In addition illustrations and photos will be used to convey important points.
Street
1. Street A 1-12, 2-10s, 3-8s / Maximum of 1 amp 2. Street B 1-15, 2-12s, 3-10s, 4-8s / Maximum of 2 amps 3. Street C 1-18, 2-15s, 4-12s, 6-10s, 8-8s / Maximum of 4 amps
No Walls SVC or DVC woofers only. (A maximum of 4 electrical conductors may be connected to each woofer.) Battery physical size limits Maximum voltage limits 13 VDC car off Tested in the lane Cosmetic modifications ARE allowed behind the rearmost seat. (Custom installs, replace carpet, replace panels, etc.,) Seats may not be removed (even if they are removable). Per Driver Power (or Total Power) Limit (TBD).
Street Pro (Replaces Last Years Super Street 1-2 NW)
4. Street Pro A 1-15, 2-12s, 3-10s, 4-8s 5. Street Pro B 1-18, 2-15s, 4-12s, 6-10s, 8-8s
No Walls No Floor cut-throughs Multi-coil woofers allowed (A maximum of 4 electrical conductors may be connected to each woofer.) Maximum of 5000 Watts Per Driver (dBDRA Certified Power Rating initially. CEA rating at a later date.)
Super Street
6. Super Street 1 7. Super Street 2 8. Super Street 3-4 9. Super Street 5+
Multi-coil woofers allowed (A maximum of 4 electrical conductors may be connected to each woofer.) Maximum of 8000 Watts Per Driver (dBDRA Certified Power Rating initially. CEA rating at a later date.)
Extreme
10. Extreme 1 11. Extreme 2 12. Extreme 3-4 13. Extreme 5+ 14. Monster - No limits on vehicle modifications or equipment No qualifications required for World Finals. Invitational Only. Class record only. Not eligible for Extreme Cup or prize money.
SPECIAL NOTE WITH REGARDS TO EXTREME INTERIORS: In the past, the rule book told competitors what they could NOT do. Competitors assumed that if something wasn't in the rule book, it must be okay. This year, competitors will be told what they MUST do and what they MAY do. If it isn't specified in the rule book, then it isn't permitted.
Multi-coil woofers allowed (A maximum of 4 electrical conductors may be connected to each woofer.) No seats allowed Nothing in front of the speakers (no loading walls)
Extreme Custom Dashboard Requirements
Each vehicle MUST have a dash. The highest point of the dash may not extend above the horizontal plane defined by the bottom of the windshield. The lowest point of the dash may not be located any lower than 3 inches below the horizontal plane defined by the bottom of the windshield. The dash shall extend from the windshield pillar on the drivers side to the windshield pillar on the passenger side. The minimum depth of the dash shall be 6 inches (measured in the center of the dash). The maximum depth of the dash shall be 12 inches (measured in the center of the dash). The plane of the dash must be flat with respect to the ground at all locations within 12 inches distance from the sensor. The trailing edge of the dash (facing the passenger compartment) must be straight from one side of the vehicle to the other. (Viewed from the top.) The relationship between the dash and the windshield shall be such that the sensor can be placed on the windshield and the proper distances from the sensor to the dash (4 inches) and the sensor to the windshield pillar (12 inches) can be achieved. Holes and notches are not permitted in the dash.
Extreme Center Console Limitations
Each vehicle MAY have a center console. The maximum width of the center console is 18 inches (looking down). The center console may not exceed the height of the lowest part of the dash. The center console must be centered in the vehicle and must be symmetrical when viewed from the top. If the center console interferes with the string test, then that portion of the center console shall be easily removable for officiating purposes.
Extreme Roof Build-Down Limitations
Competitors MAY construct a roof build-down if desired. The build-down may not extend below the top of the door jamb. The string test will be used to determine compliance.
Extreme Door Build-Out Limitations
Competitors MAY build-out their door panels if desired. The maximum distance the build-out may extend into the passenger compartment is 4 inches. (Measured from the location of the original door panel.)
Extreme Passenger Compartment Requirements
A minimum vertical separation of 3 feet (36 inches) MUST be provided between the headliner (or roof build-down) and the floor (or floor build-up) at ALL locations within the passenger compartment except over the center console and the dash. A 36-inch rod will be used to determine compliance. The judge will hold the rod vertically and move it around inside of the passenger compartment. If the rods movement is impeded in any way, then the vehicle fails compliance with this rule. (The "2-Adult Rule", "Traditional Seating Arrangement", etc. are all being scrapped.)
Extreme Windshield Limitations
The maximum windshield thickness is 4 inches. A uniform thickness must be used for all windshield panels. If the windshield is panelized, only vertical separations may be used.

The only problem I see is the 13 volt limit in street. I think that it should be higher, possibly 14v. I have seen a lot of batteries that rest over 13v when they are fully charged(ok maybe they were overcharged a little ). I also think amplifier should be defined. This will end companies bolting 2 amps together and calling it one.

This is NOT the complete rule book. This list only has major changes.
Street rules will be the same as last year (except for the noted changes.)
Street Pro will use the same rules as Super Street 1-2 NW from last year (except for the noted changes.)
Extreme will use the same rules as last year (except for the noted changes.)
Yes, there will be a Street class with a single 12.
No, the engine may not be running in Street.
Yes, you may remove your seat in Street Pro. (Provided the seat is intended to be removed.) I don't have a problem with the removal of 3rd row seats in Street but I wish to discuss this matter further with the Rules Committee.

it all looks fine except for the 13volt, a battery that is being charged before going into the lanes will read over 14 volts,i dont see it being a owner problem but a battery problem,as long as it is a 12v battery it shouldnt make a difference what voltage it puts out, just my thoughts,

Renamed Super Street NW to Street Pro because this division is significantly different than Super Street.
We may up the 13 volt limit to 14 volts. This is addressing a safety concern. We saw many "overcharged" batteries at Finals. This causes acid spills and gassing.

dont look too bad, i thought a street a.5 would be nice, with 2 12's and 1 amp, ruff on the seat thing, any chance of just saying no crx it street? i think many (those without them) would like that Posts: 1172 | From: estill springs, tn USA | Registered: Aug 2000

i personally dont care about crx in street? just get your own car loud.
13v thing has to go, my battery sits over 13v after i turn the car off.
i still dont see how no wall was diff from any other super street class except for no wall. but i guess we could rename it.
i dont know if we need power limit in street really due to the fact that the cars are off and we dont allow batcaps or amps with them.

I must say wayne, that I did a whole lot of complaining to you, other judges, and many people throughout the industry, badmouthing the apparant way changes seemed headed. But I must say, that you've turned around and done the complete opposite! I think these new rules will allow more people to compete (especially newcomers) without alienating any of the existing competitors by forcing them into a costly equipment swap. I absolutely love the class layouts! Once again, db drag has my full support and I will be bringing shows back to new again, with a whole host of new retailers on board.

I have noticed this in some cars with upgraded alternators and much larger than stock batteries, but in the case of a true "street" car, I have not ever seen one idle voltage over 13v with the car off. If you are over that, you are not "street" and should be moved to pro.

i should be moved to pro street for that? so i have to go from 2 12's and 2 amps to 2 15's, crap load of amps and a 16v set up? dont u think thats a bit harsh??
and i have a stock chrysler alternator and a hawker battery which i bought from a local battery shop so there is nothing special about my electrical system.........am I street enough now? also what would u call upgraded alternator? did you know that diesel dodge pick ups can come with a 200amp alternator stock.
and just to note what all 3 cars in my family have hawker batteries with stock alternators, all sit over 13v when u shut them off....so i guess my mom's grocery getter is a pro street material eh?
