to get people into this sport, some people say there are not enough dbdrags in their area... i know most will be opposed to this but, how about an open finals? yes there will be alot more cars there, but lets say anyone who gets 200 points during the season, gets free entry to finals as well. This may spruce the dbdrag economy up a little... maybe give free entry to first year competitors at finals, even if everyone says no to the open finals, free entry to first year comeptitors does support the sport, i mean there might be 10-15 new competitors at finals MAX, but thats only 2-3k out of the total pot or so...
yes i do realize that most of you will say, thats is a stupid idea...

WELL I LITE WHERE YOU ARE GOING....lets say that 250pts is free entry and 200pts is 1/2 price...and like 150pts is a 25% discount...sounds like a plan to me

I don't think it is a stupid idea. However, I do not agree with your suggestion. But, that does not mean it is stupid.
But, since you brought up the topic about competitor points, might I make a suggestion also. Instead of rewarding competitors for attending mass amounts of events, what about placing a cap on the quantity of points a competitor can receive during a season. My thought is, if a competitor (mostly directed at veterans) is unable to recieve more than 150 points (number is used as an example) during a season, then after that competitor achieves the 150 points, they have less need to continue competing for the remainded of the season. Of course, the competitor who has reached the 150 points cap, may still be allowed to attend multi-point shows (to achieve a higher certified score) but they will not earn any points value. If there are no points earned, after 150, then maybe that would open up the option for others to take a chance at competition. If the veteran competitors are not filling the classes, then a rookie competitor may feel that have a better chance of winning at a event. If the rookie competitor believes they have a chance of ending in the "top three" positions (since they would not be running against the veteran competitors), then they would feel easier about registering to compete. This would allow each veteran competitor to earn their place at finals, yet also allow rooom for rookie competitors to feel better about competing.
As an example:
No Cap = John (veteran) averages 170 dB's at each event. Joe (veteran) averages 168 dB's at each event. Bill (veteran) averages 165 dB's at each event. Dave (rookie) averages 150 dB's at each event. Sid (rookie) averages 145 dB's at each event.
All five competitors are in the same class structure. John, Joe, Dave and Sid live in the same town. Bill live in a neighboring state.
At each event, John earn first place, Joe earns second place, Dave earns third place, and Sid walks away disappointed at the event results. This continues to repeat itself at each event throught the season. Eventually, Sid begins to wonder if participation in competition is worth the time, expense and effort to continue walking away "empty handed". At a few events, Bill travels into town and enters some events (to gain points). Since each competitor is striving for the most points, Sid (and occasionally, Dave) are "shut down" by the veteran competitors.
NOW, Lets put a cap on the total points a comeptitor can earn in a season....
While John, Joe and Dave continue to take "top three" at each event, Eventually, John will reach his cap of 150 points. Once John reaches the cap point, winning future (single point events) earns him no bonus. Since John earns no reward for continuing to compete (at single point events) he takes time to prepare for an upcomming multi-point event (to increase his certified score). Now, Joe moves into the number one position, Dave into the number two position, and Sid into the number three position. With the few exceptions of Bills apperance, the event result stay constant. Once Joe (who use to earn 7 points per event, now earns 8 points per) quickly reaches his points cap, he follow suit as to what John did (reserves his vehicle for multi-point events only). This moves Dave into the number one position and Sid into the number two position. With Sid's score being as low as it is, a spectator (Susan) believes she can beat Sid's score. Susan, who has never competed before, enters an event. Susan finishes in second place (beating Sid's score). From that moment on, Susan become more interested in competing at future events. A few other spectators (Bruce, Mark, Tom) witness what Susan has done, and it makes them wonder if they could do the same. At the next event, the male spectators register to compete. Tom beats Susan and Sid's scores, and now he becomes more interested in compting at future events. The roles continue to progress throughout the remainder of the season.
Now, if there were no cap on points (as the current rules provide), John would have still continued to earn first place finshes. Joe would have continues earning second place, and Dave would have continued to earn third place (with the few exceptions of Bill's participation). Sid desire to place within the "top three" (and walk away with a trophy) could begin to demenish. Eventually, Sid could "retire" since he sees no benefit of wasting money to compete for fourth place. Susan, Bruce, Mark and Tom would have never shown an interest in competing. By the end of the season, Joh, Joe and Bill recieve invites to participate at finals. Sid, Susan, Bruce, Mark and Tom venture off into other hobbies and/or sports. Because they felt the had no chance of winning, they lose interest in competition, and dB Drag Racing loses some potentially future world champion competitors. All this, so someone (points leader) can win a reward...A jacket.
So (if you were able to make it through my ramblings), I believe an option may be to place a limit on the total accumulative points a competitor can earn in a single season.
Thank you.

I THINK WE NEED TO HAVE A HUGE INCENTIVE. PERHAPS TOP 10 IN POINTS GET 25% OFF, TOP 5 GET 50% OFF AND 1ST IN POINTS GETS WHOLE FINALS FOR FREE. BACK WHEN CAR AUDIO SHOWS WAS THE BAJIZZLZ, THERE WERE MONEY SHOWS EVERYWHERE, TRUE YOU WILL HAVE TO PUT OUT MORE MONEY, PERHAPS EACH 1ST PLACE YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK AT A SHOW. BUT WE NEED THIS STRUCTURE TO BE BACK IN COMPETITION. BUT I DO NOT THINK ALOT OF JUDGES ARE WILLING TO HAVE THIS STRUCTURE AGAIN.

Incentives are good, yes, BUT the convention center, competitor party, prize money, etc. do not pay for themselves. Wayne does not receive the proceeds from a majority of the dBDRA sanctioned events so even if somebody is accumulating 200-250 even 300 points, Wayne is not benefitting from that in any way; therefore, it is not economical for him to "give away" finals entry fee funding - discounts may be a possibility but I don't really see that as being cost-effective either. Plus if you give an incentive for more points, more people are going to "attend shows via teleconference" (loose terminology of course, but the way I think of it) just so they can have those extra incentives. I know many people would not as they see it as being "cheating" but I also know many that would - especially if it means more cash back in their pockets.
As far as Sid's suggestion, it sounds great but unless you always had an updated leaderboard with all events including those from the day before or even the day of (in the case that there are two shows within driving distance of one another on the same day) with you I cannot see how it would work. You would have to know how many points each competitor already had to know how many points they would achieve. It is one of those things that is a great idea - but too hard to police at this point.

I think its a good thought, the only problem is this. Entry into Finals is only $200, I think Wayne wouldn't mind giving that up if it meant doubling attendence at regular shows through the year.
BUT! Any idea the massive amount of money I (and others) would spend going to double the shows to earn free entry into finals? I would MUCH rather spend $200 for the entry to finals that have to pay for gas towing and hotels to attend all the extra shows...
Now maybe some sort of incentive for those of us that are retailers? Maybe if we throw X amount of shows, we get free entry, or some other type of incentive. Or maybe some sort of awards or championships for the retail end, like who had the most paid entries over the space of the year, or something to that effect. Something to motivate us not only to have the show, but to actually promote it and try to get some attendence. I think a lot of us have started scheduling a show, posting it on here, and then just sit back expecting everyone to come to us.
I still think our biggest goal, above all else, is to stop catering to ourselves, the minority, and start looking at anything and everything we can do to pull in some new blood.

retailer awards sound like a really good idea, should promote the sport, perhaps the top 3 shops that throw the most amount of shows gets free dbdrag retailer the next year? might be a tiebreaker issue with that, but perhaps multipointer will be the tiebreaker, and the shop with the most, gets a free multipointer?
i think shops are thinking, correct me if i am wrong, why would i want to sponsor a dying sport, we don't really sell that much on the days the shows are thrown. might get a little recognition, but nothing really big.
