Decided I wanted to get into competition, started looking at rules to determin where I could fit in. I was thinking about street to start, well I drive a 2003 ext cab Silverado. That means street is outta question as there is no room for subs under rear seats. I pulled the rear seats out to acommodate my daily driver setup when I bought the truck, I also have a 300 amp alternator. So then I start looking into SS 1-2 class, as you all know this is where the big boys play. So my overall thoughts this far are that I can try and compete as a newb but in no way will be able to provide any competition for the big dogs that play here. Some wonder why there are not that many new competitors out there, this is one example of why. Oh yeah and it will basically cost me approx $10,000 to start competing.
Don't you worry though, I have a true competitor spirit and I will put something together. See you in the lanes, please be nice when you hand my ass to me. [Frown]

its as if your truck is big enough to tow with. so why not spend 1k on a van, 4k on 16 crossfire 1000ds, 4 15s or 4 18s can be had for about 1-1.5k, spend 1.5k on batts, 1k for installation neccessities, $200 on a deck. leaves you with 800 which you can spend on a trailer, maybe a little more than 800, i am giving you high end prices which equipment can be had for... 10k and you can compete with the big boys, as for taking finals, prolly not, but very possible for a top 8.
that is in ss3-4.

Or we could wait and find out what the new classes are going to be. He might be able to get by or less than 1k?

I can commend you for recognizing the high costs of competiting at a national level. But You stated that you wanted to start competiting that should cost less than a grand total to start. I am curious how many national level SS 1-2 competitors live in your area that you would be shut out of every show. I think if you are thinking of starting that should be your goal to start. If your first goal that you set is to be a national contendor than the $10,000 is a small price to pay for fame.

I would also like to point out that I compete in SS 5-8 with my daily driver and my competition vehicle there is about a 13 db difference betweenthe two. I only used my van at about 7 of the 14 shows that I attended and of those seven four of them were multi point events. No not everyone can have that convenience of having 2 vehicles but the point that I am trying to make is that there are enough shows around for you to have a good time and earn quite a few points even if your vehicle is not a national contender.

Wow someone that realizes that going to Finals is like dreaming of winning the Superbowl with you and your buddies from the bar. That is the level that finals competitors are at. They are the best of the best and the loudest in the world.
