quote:
You STILL haven't presented any info as to why that rule should be removed.
yes he did, lookie here

quote:
it was a dumb rule
sorry tom, had to do it [Big Grin]

quote:
Ok I disagree 100% here. I am seriously contemplating doing the battery swap myself to preserve overall battery life on the set of batteries that set me back 300 bux.

Also I like the idea of trailering my 241,394 mile daily driver so it doesnt get any more miles on it.

Thirdly how the hell are you going to enforce something if you make a rule for it.

i never said anything was wrong with trailoring or swapping batteries. i just can't believe people were doing it. the thought had never crossed our minds to ever swap the battery or trailor our street car. our street a car kicked butt all year, and ran undefeated all year, and we still placed 5th at finals. all with a neon with a billion miles on it, and the same battery, and a great crew. as a matter of fact, the owner of that car drives it everyday, especially now that it's his only car for his whole family and two people in the household both work different shifts.
now, believe me, to each his own. if there is a competitor that wants to trailor his street car, swap a battery, or whatever, that is their choice. and nothing at all is, or should be illegal about it. but IN MY OPINION, that takes all of the fun out of competing. to me, half the fun is in the road trip to the show in your spl hog. (notice i said, in my opinion)

quote:
Wow and such a stance is quite short minded! (no offense bro) but street is the cheapest class going to finals, and if it weren't there db drag would have been long since dead. Street is going to be what supports this organization. No matter what anyone thinks SS1-2 on up is NOT going to keep db drag running...

i think you misunderstood me. you are right, the street class is what keeps dbdrag running. hence, my quote
quote:
i know that wayne will never eliminate his big money class.
that means that street class is the big money class to him. and yes, when i said lets elimate street class, i was being sarcastic. i rarely get all upset or offended on a message board. [Big Grin]

hey tim.......... [Roll Eyes]
TAKE THAT! [Razz]

and alex, i know you prolly replied because you knew i had you guys in mind. but as i said, there is nothing wrong with it. but to me, it just takes all the fun out of it to trailor a vehicle that can be driven perfectly fine with no problems. and why not drive on that battery, no one lives forever! [Big Grin]

i just feel that certain lines between steet and superstreet should be upheld and enforced. and i was really talking about the whole van B/C pillar issue.and some battery type and placement issues aswell.

GeoX - I'll be the first to agree with you in that I love the drive to an event with my yota.

However, if I had the funds I'd trailer it. This SUV must last me 6 more years and another 240+k miles and I'm begining to have a few tranny quirks... It's my only form of transportation and if given an opportunity to reduce it's wear, I intend to take it. I'm just trying to show you why some may trailer.

But if a rule were enacted, how would it be enforced? You'd just trailer the street car to a mall about 2 miles up the road, etc. Batteries can be swapped the night before...

just sharing an opinion here...

ok, one more time. i do not think there should be a rule against trailoring. my main issue is the whole van thing and the hoakey battery issue.
i only stated that i was surprised to see someone trailoring a street car. thats all. i never felt that there should be a rule against it to be enforced in the first place.

I didn't know if you were talking about us or not. I wasn't offended by the post, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am one of the people who trailers a street vehicle. That way people will have an idea of why some people trailer vehicles, not just street, but super street as well. The first time I saw a vehicle trailered to a show I thought it was crazy too, but it was a "Wow, these guys are serious" type of crazy.

I remember last year when I had a CRX in ss1-2nw that was overloaded with batteries and amps, and I drove it to the local shows, no problem. Then the Flint, MI double pointer came around, and I drove it four hours each way, with batteries, amps, extra gear and luggage. Now that sucked. Keep in mind, for people who don't know me, I am 6' 5" and the seat of the CRX had to be all the way forward, yes all the way forward, to fit everything in the car. Yeah, it sucked, but I would do it again if I had to, IF I had to. (luckily, I don't have to do that anymore)

Any way, I think the rules about the equipment in front of the door jams needs to be adjusted, along with the rule about removeable seats. I think that adjusting those two rules could fix a lot of problems.

Think about it.

I never said to get rid of street class...street is the best class in dbdrag, I would never want to get rid of it. And as for allowing the box to move to the front again the reason that I think that is because there are plenty of people out there that are stuck driving ****ty minivans (like I used to) who don't have the money to buy a CRX and would still like to be competitive...bottom line is that it doesn't give an advantage it just allows vans to compete at a level playing field with the other cars out there. I really don't care anymore honestly because I don't have a van...I just feel for those kids who drive a hand me down caravan and want to get into the sport but can't because it is basically dominated by CRXs...and tha is further allowed due to the fact that people are stickin it to the van!

wow yuli, imagine what my POS colt would do in a situation like that??why, it would be like a...a..CRX [Eek!] if the battery was to be installed properly onto the battery tray , than it would be closer to a level playing field [Cool] a crx can't fit a pc1700 in the factory tray, same goes with 300zx [Wink]

It's funny everyone's talking about leveling the playing field by trying to make cars which are already loud louder.. what about trunks? [Smile] they have a huge disadvantage over vans and crx's.. [Smile]

tom, you know i'm just rattling you chains about getting rid of the street class. but you have to admit that a vehicle is only $h!tty if you let it be. now, you used a pontiac transport. i thought your van looked nice and presentable at all times. clean, no rust. now, you could have spent some $$$ on some custom wheels and set the whole van off. [Cool] to me, that was the only thing your van was missing. i have a van of the same bodystyle, a chevy lumina apv. mine needs alot more than just wheels to look as good as yours did. [Frown] but, there are alot of caravans around that look pretty poopy. but, there are some that look very nice. troy irvings van comes to mind here. [Big Grin]
my point is, some people do not have a $h!tty van because they can't afford a crx. i guarantee you that most people who drive the vans have them because they just like vans. and the same for crx's. or they seen something and wanted to try it themselves. and i have seen alot of really poopy looking crx's in dbdrag. especially out of here in ohio.
i also do not feel that the whole staying behind the c-pillar thing is creating a disadvantage. i think that people got used to the way of thinking with the box shoved forward. there is no real disadvantage with the box at the back. the approach is just different. personally, i still feel that a minivan still has a good upperhand in alot of areas over most other vehicles and i can't wait to break out our new street minivan this year.
overall, i feel that the street rules are best left untouched for the new season. at the most, with some additional reinforcment on the battery issue.

and alex, we've been friends for over a year now ever since we battled it out at the very show you spoke of. i know full well that most superstreet vehicles SHOULD be trailored. i've never had the money nor the oppertunity to trailor my vehicle. hence, my setup is very easy on the vehicles supension and transmission making my car very drivable to any show no matter the distance. but at the same time, i usually end up with my butt kicked because someone else has the $$$ to buy a trailor and a tow vehicle so that they can modify their vehicle to be able to achieve higher spl at the cost of being able to drive their vehicle any further than from the trailor to the lanes. but thats my own choice. and superstreet is not the topic of this discussion. [Wink]
and for the last time, there is nothing wrong with trailoring a street car. it was just overkill in MY OPINION, which does not matter anyways. [Razz]

I wonder one thing because in USA no one seems to use anything else than Crx in street classes..
The questions is dont you have any other small car lika VW Golf or small Japanese cars..
They would be cheaper and they work well in those classes over here..

CRX's can be found for next to nothing over here, but they aren't the only thing that is used. We ran an explorer and a caravan in street this year, we just switched to a crx cuz we got it cheap. We never got our crx much louder than the explorer or the van.

Around here, a 2nd gen(The loud one) can be had from 300-1000 for one in pretty good shape. The one we ran in street B was $300, and only needed some minor body work.

A few things I would like to see to help level the playing field and make it cheaper for new people to compete.

1. Add at least one more street class, only one amp and whatever else is decided upon. Two 10s, one 12, whatever.

2. Battery placement, not only in the factory location but it should "fit" in the factory tray. A battery shouldn't be allowed to hang-off of the factory tray by 5-7 inches.

3. With the banning of quads, the move-up rule should be reinstated, this will keep the street class fresh and help to fill up other classes. The arguement that it would cost too much to move-up will become irreleveant. It should also be more strictly enforced, no more changing it over to a friend/family members name.

Now I'm not saying that these should be immediate changes(especially the moe-up rule), but I think this would help the future of the sport.

I don't know where you were going to shows but I have been seeing that for a few years. Mainly in a few more popular street cars like the CRX, and the EXP. I have an EXP and can tell you that an SP1700 does not fit in the factory tray.

what if the rules were changed so that the factory battery restraining bracket had to remain inplace, and unmodified. lets see how many sp1700's will disappear then.
all cars come with the bracket.
and it is a good way to solve alot of street battery issues.
then you just have to worry about geting the caps out of the bats [Wink]

If you change this rule, there will be no use for a stinger 1700 anymore. I don't know of any car that can fit one in the factory battery tray. Can you name one? I know it is common practice for street-beaters to remove factory battery trays to fit bigger batteries. I did it a long time ago before I ever thought about competing because my factory battery wouldn't cut it. I have several friends who have done the same thing in their daily driver setups. Lets just go ahead and make everyone run a 6v electrical system since that is what cars started out with [Roll Eyes]
