Please only reply if you are competing or have competed in the past with a vehicle in these two classes and you have modified your floor.
My first question is this;
From the origional floor, how far down is/was the build down? I am not concerned with structural mods to the frame etc, just the measurement from the origional floor to the new manufactured floor.
Second question;
How far is the build down below the skin of the vehicle. Standing on the side of the vehicle, how mauch of the modification hags down below the factory exterior skin?

for my box , i cut not sure on how much is cut out. Never checked. I just know that the box sits on the frame rails. so its still inside the oem skin. For the old battery rack. Its cut to the lowest part that stuck down in the old spair tire well. It sticks down about 3" inches lower than the body.

In the caravan, we cut out a battery rack in the back end. It hangs down about the height of a turbostart battery, and you can't see it at all unless you know where to look.

when i got the TOYOTA the floor was already hacked up most of it gone so i used what was left for the first two years then in 2002 we cut the floor out completly down to the level of the cabin floor.
although none of it hangs down below the body YET the batery box hangs about 14" below in the rear.

my finished floor is the same height of the original factory floor. so there about 8 inches below where the rear seat/ gas tank where. it outside hangs down about 3 inches from bottom of the car, not really noticeable with the side skirts on.

I've also cut floor from my Uno. Actually top of the box floor is about 2" above factory floor and bottom of the box floor is about 1½-2" bellow factory floor. Yes it's not very thick but it's steels and Epox Batterybox is located in rear bellow level where orginal factoryfloor is. Ground clearance under the batterybox is only about 4".

So if we had a rule that said "build downs cannot be greater than 15" below the lowest point of OEM "skin""
This would put some limitation, yet allow for those who have done it.

I for one do not have any build downs and have no objection to those who do, but I can already see a grey area and would like to open it to opinions. Define the lowest point of a build down. Is it the lowest point of the enclosure or is it the lowest point of modification (such as reinforced frame). Also would the lowest point of the oem skin be defined as the lowest painted portion of the vehicle. and lastly would a good way to measure this be to measure the distance of the lowest painted point of the vehicle to the ground then measure the lowest point of the build down then subtract the 2 and you would need to be 15 in or less. 15 in is kind of steep but then again airdams on vehicles fronts are pretty low.

can you enlarge the interior of the vehicle by cutting the floor.
battery boxes are already covered. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A point of referrence needs to be established.
lowest point in most vehicles would be where your feet would reside. I suggest this as a starting point and also have a min. ground clearance of atleast 3" - 4" for safty sakes.

This is different in vans than in trucks. The van floor is 6-8 inches above the bottom of the door jam and the floor is even with the bottom of the door jam. This is why I propose to use the lowest point of OEM skin which is already clearly defined in the rulebook.
As far as ground clearance, there are bone-stock vehicles on the road that have less than 4" of ground clearance. That has nothing to do with our sport. If it can make it into the lanes on its own power, then that is good enough. That is how it has always been and should always be.

maybe they should be a cubic foot or square inch rule for build down, instead of a certain amount of inches... kinda like extremes center console rule

There is no rule currently about extreme's center console size other than the console can't come above the dash height. Super Street has a center console size rule such as this.
If that was the case,Superior sounds console would not be legal because it was big enough to house a small Vietnamese family! (not singling them out...several competitors have large consoles.)

Yes,it's in the rulebook...but there is nothing about how wide it is allowed to be.

well like i said if you get a square inch or cubic foot involved, really doesn't matter how wide it has to be. has to coincide with legnth and height along with width...
