I have only 1 question that I would like to have answered on equipment...Please, no bashing...no bringing up names of companies/competitors...I am NOT trying to point any fingers...I just want to KNOW IN MY KNOWER what the "intent" is here...
I know how the rules read, but I would like a point blank interpretation on what is required for a product to be considered "available"...I am not asking for any changes or modifications to the rules, but I would like to know what is and isn't allowed?
1.) does the product HAVE to be READILY available to ANYONE or can it be available ONLY to a corporate team?
2.) is there an ACTUAL physical number of pieces required to be considered legal?
3.) seeing how there is no legal reason someone can't buy a product that IS available and then put a different name on the dustcap, is this going to be allowed?
4.) If product DOES have to be available through dealers at the RETAIL level, does it have to be something available to a certain number of dealers or could only 1-2 dealers be allowed to have a monopoly over said products sales?
I will thank you in advance for your answers...I will ask that CERTIFIED JUDGES AND WAYNE HIMSELF be the only ones who answer as they are the only ones that matter on this topic! Again...PLEASE, I know there are woofer and amplifier manufacturers currently in this grey area and WITHOUT MENTIONING ANY NAMES I would just LOVE to have a clear picture in my own mind for future refference!
Thanks again... Michael Ankney
*currently not a competitor, retailer or manufacturer...just an inquiring mind who wants to know*

I posted here because I feel that this topic pertains to many people and I think that more than just my own person could benefit from its answer...I asked that others NOT respond as their OPINIONS WILL NOT answer my questioin! I have/had my own opinions on this topic, but as you might notice if you read above...I DIDN'T STATE THEM...Why you ask? BECAUSE JUST LIKE YOUR OPINION, MY OPINION DOESN'T MATTER! WE DON'T MAKE/INTERPRET THE RULES...
...and yes, that is another good part to add to the question...thank you for that shedluv I too would like to know "Is custom manufacturing a subwoofer by a non-manufacturer out of commericially available parts from suppliers considered production?"
These questions are bigger and more important than some of you may realize...I would just like someone to POINT BLANK SPELL IT OUT for me
Can production be single 8 ohm and then use a quad 2 ohm for "the team" only?
Can "the team" use a driver that is spruced up more than the "standard production"?
ARE PROTOTYPES ALLOWED AT FINALS? IF NO, WHAT PROOF IS REQUIRED TO BACK UP CLAIMS?
I am thinking of competing next year and I want to know what the 2004 interpretation of the rules is going to be...there, now it fits here!

yeah, I have been wondering that, does Soft Parts really matter in determing if the sub is legal????? but then again, besides Dustcaps, it would be pretty hard for an judge to tell
