Plexiglas IS stonger at the joints where it is bonded than in the middle of the peices that assemble the enclosure. I have had 2 boxes that UPS found a way to break & you can see that a crack in the box will go right near or accross the bond & not break the bond at all. The weld-on #4 chemical melts the acrilic together, it is not an adhesive at all.

Also 1/2" plexiglas is much stronger & ridgid than 3/4" MDF.

Thought I would add a few things that I have learned in my experiance with plexiglas.

There isn't a woofer in the world that can break my boxes.

Bobby is correct about the increased strength of fused plastic. It seems a bit odd at first, but after many completed projects, I will agree that I found this to be the case, the fused joint is more resistant to breakage caused by impact.
