I am going to be putting a set of 5.25" comps in Kick Panels and would like to put some 6.5" subs in about .15 - .2 sealed enclosures in the door. The 5.25" play very strong down to 60hz - 70hz so I will most likeley go HP around 65hz to the Kicks @ 24db and LP around 65hz to the Doors @ 24 db. My only concern is that I will have some cancelation with the 12" sub that will be in the back. Can I run them at the same frequencies without a problem, or am I going to be screwed.

Termpro is a big bass forum, not many people deal with anything less than 12" subs around here.

Go to Sound Domain or Elite Car Audio and ask this question again. You will get far more responses.

I wouldn't say your going to be screwed, but you will probably run into some problems with phasing and cancellation. I think experimentation would be advisable at this point.

You may also want to consider LP'ing your 12" woofers MUCH lower, say around 35-40hz, using them basically for impact, then run your door woofers from 35 to 70. Running them this way, you may avoid any problems.

Let us know!

why would you like to install some 6.5 subs in your doors? Instead, why don't install bigger sub, like 8" or 10"? You might find your answer on another post called: rebuilding my front stage, under sound quality forum.

It has been edited by Ntense (me).

Hi

I have one pair of focal 5ws subs in each door in my car. They are very tight, accurate, but dont go too deep. The biggest problem I had was creating a sealed enclosure for them. They sound good now, but now I have issues with tactile sound. Sound you can feel. Ideally you should not be able to locate any speakers in a car when listening. I can do this with my mids and highs, but the judges as well as anybody else can feel the subs in the doors. This immediately brings my stage down, psychologically. I would recommend trying to mount a sub somewhere in the dash or in the trunk and make use of some sort of time alignment

took me a while to figure this one out- so putting subs in REAR doors would be a good choice, right? this is considering that you can't get much of an image out of rear doors and that the system is built entirely for the driver...

With your 6.5's in the doors, I'd cross over the kicks at about 90hz or so. They'll play cleaner and louder. As far as good 6.5" subs, you'd be hard pressed to do better than the kicker 6.5" free airs. They will play down below 40hz with authority and you don't need to build a special enclosure, just dynamat your doors.
Have fun,
Bob
