I'm in the process of trying to decide between these 2 amps :

MTX TE1501D Elite $339
USAMPS MD-2D $319

The car will be a daily driver.

The subwoofer will be :

RE AUDIO 15" SEX
-or-
RE AUDIO 15" SX

I've heard the MD-2D isnt very clean, but I do love USAMPS from my expierence in the past they are GREAT amps, but for my pricerange these are the 2 amps im looking at. I have no expierence with MTX, so I ask you what is a better amp?

What are the Pros and Cons of both.

old usamps and todays usamps are not the same...i am/ was a re/ usamps dealer....if you are looking good power and a budget...audiopipe ap1500.1 puts out 1500 watts at 1 ohm and its better deal than both amps by far

I would rather spend a little more for a quality amp I have had audiopipe stuff in the past and it was cheap made junk IMHO.

I can't believe there aren't more people on this thread it seems these 2 amps are the bad boys in the 1500watt section.

hmm well thats very disappointing, so that sways me in the direction of the MTX TE1501D then...

Hmm I just dont like how the specs on the MTX look on paper, the THD and SN Ratio are ugly, unless I can find someone who can give me a personal review of that amp?

Did you get you audiopipe off ebay? I think people who get it from a ath dealer don't have any problems if installed right...the ap1500 in the shop can run 1/2 ohm n take 16v...that's not junk...and put out a real 1500 rms

Can't speak for the US Amps... BUT I think you can do better than the 1501D Elite for the money. I and a friend have used them a few times. They are VERY finicky amps. We had one blow it's thermal protection and proceed to warp the so called cooling fin to a deep purple. Another popped the second it saw any kind of voltage below 11 (yes, I know, my friends fault). Most of the problems were cause by user error, but we have beat other amps much harder with no failures. As long as you don't push them hard in any way they work.

The Audiopipes are pretty user friendly amps. I used the 3000 to get to national finals last year in Midwestspl and never had one complaint with it. For $309 shipped I think you can get twice the amp you are looking at with the other two.

We got our MTX amps from a local dealer. At a comp that same shop hosted there were 3 TE1501ds go up in smoke in a matter of a few hours in three seperate cars. I know there are MANY killer mtx amps out there. I just think this model had some weak spots with their design.

I've always thought the 1501'd too have been a pretty good amp for their day. I know a lot of people were modding them and using them at or below 1ohm. you know, taking out the protection circuit=more likely to smoke.they were rated for 2ohm.

The TE1501d is the newest model which is rated for a 1 ohm load. Much different than the old 1501d!
