i just got a soundstream sa 164 for $40. its still brand new.its a lil blue guy....is this an "old school" cheater amp? and did i get a good deal?

not sure but i think its old school. looks to be around the time of the reference series. also this a small 4 channel amp. should sound great.

very highend by the looks of it with 3 boards keeping it very clean. is it class A?

I think I built one of those in one of my engineering classes [Wink]

I don't know if I would have paid $40 for it?...

No possibility that is class A, unless it is a 20 watt amp(total).

A cheater amp were their 5.0 and 10.0 amplifiers. Typically it referred to amplifiers that would be rated at 25x2@4 ohm and you could run them at 1 ohm, .5 ohm and they would do substantially more power.

Orion hcca 225 25x2@4ohm 400x1@1ohm
SS 10.0 25x2@4ohm 800x1@.5 ohm
US AMPS VLX 25 12.5x2 400x1@.5 ohm(though people put 1500x boards in that chassis 1500x1@4ohm).

yep its the one in the pic......its got more power then i thought i murdered an audiobahn 10 on accident with it and didnt even turn it all the way up
