I was reading up on the future of electric cars and came across something called ultracapacitors... a beer can-sized capacitor that can hold at max of 5000 farads at today's tech level, it is supposed to replace batteries so the electric cars can be much lighter. Here's a wiki explanation.
I was like oh that would be great for car audio! But then I found someone are actually selling them, on eBay, $30 for a 650 Farad 2.7 vdc cell and $50 for a 1500 Farad 2.7 vdc cell
Has anyone confirmed this??? Is it similar to BatCap? You can buy a set and it comes with the recharge/discharge system just like on a typical capacitor. How many farads does it equal to something like a 1000 cca battery?

I called them and from what I could understand to send 900amps for 4 seconds at 14 volts I would need three of the Big modules @ 800usd each......Think I will stay with my batteries.... if anyone has any questions for them this guy was really cooperative tdickson@maxwell.com

I used the Maxell caps in 2006 in Terry Francis' SS 3-4 Festiva. Been playing with them ever since. Where they were an advantage in his car was the ability to supply the current necessary with minimal voltage drop while taking up minimal real estate. I used6 of the bmod440, 440 farad capacitor modules. His MMATS amps wouldn't take 18 volts so 16v batts were out of the question. I would charge to modules to 16 volts, pull about 3200-3500 amps of current off of them and not dip below 14.5vdc for the run.
They were used to set a USACi trunk 0-1000 record at NW Audio back in June and in a championship vehicle last weekend on the other side of the hall from dB Drag. They are very pricey, yet extremely effective. I have extensive testing with these modules and would be happy to answer any other questions. I am not on this forum often so it's best to e-mail me if you need anything. bgass@swautotoys.com
