I'm planning on running a JL 13w6v2, and I need to know if 500 watts will be enough to push this subwoofer to it's full potential. I'm trying to decide between a JL 500/1 or a 1000/1. I'll only consider JL because I just bought and have in my posession a JL 300/2, (don't wanna mix amps). My front stage is going to be a set of Dynaudio GT242. It's all going in a 2005 Chevy Tahoe. I listen to everything from Maroon 5 to Gucci Mane, no country or hard rock. Occasionally I'll throw in a little jazz for good measure. Just so you know this is not my first system I've just been without one for a very long time. I'm 36yrs old, and I don't do the loud obnoxious license plate/trunk rattling system. I'm gonna be running a sealed enclosure, with near perfect SQ as my goal, ( If you think I should run ported, Why?). thanks in advance any and all help is greatly appreciated...

1000/1 - sealed enclosure
Are you gonna pick up another 300/2 and run your front stage active or just use the single 300/2 with xovers?

I'd recommend going with the 1000/1. you can always turn it down, but if you don't have the power, you just can't turn it up. it'll help you run cleaner

Hi again, Thanks for the responses guys. I wasn't planning on buying another 300/2, but now that you ask I can't help but wonder what are the advantages? My last system was: MB Quart QSD 216, JL 300/2, 12w7, JL 1000/1, Eclipse 5441 HU. I only used one 300/2 for the Quarts and I loved them. Is there a big difference in going active?

You said "near perfect SQ is my goal".To me that suggests all active with plenty of clean power and a great install. It most likely suggests a 3-way front stage as well-midbass,mids,& tweets.
By going active you filter the signal before the amps therefore allowing the amps to use all their power on only the signal(frequencies)that particular driver plays. It also allows a lot more control. All that control can be dangerous if the tuner doesn't know what he's doing, but it's all pretty easy to pick up.
Another way to go active would be to use a 300/4 instead of the 300/2.

one of my installers has a similar setup in his toyota landcruiser.
He runs two 500/1's for his sub.
No rear fill.
Then he runs MBQuart Q's for a front stage. Two woofers, one tweeter per door.
Then he runs a 300/4 to power them. Biamping. two channels for the woofers. Two channels for the tweeters
