So I've been watching Thorshammer do some amazing things with his GP trunk and I became inspired. The car is an 02 Intrepid. The box is 5 cubes tuned to 44.7hz with a 5db peak at 47hz. The port is 108sq (11.75 Diameter). I haven't done any testing as of yet, but it is MUCH louder than the old trunk install. I would have loved to make a flare port but 1/2 thick pvc seemed a little daunting for my first box of this sort. I still need to seal up the vents directly above the sub/port and clean it up a little but I'm happy with it for 1 days work.

intrepids are hard to get good scores out of because of their shape, but it's always fun to see what you can do

LOL.....Thanks Crash!

Tinted......U just went way over my head! Do you have a link to the type of design you are refering to? Although it may appear in the pics that the sub would fit in the port, it won't. The I.D. of the port is only 11.75 inches.

Pocket screws rock....especially when you have limited room for assembly.

I picked it up at the Woodsmithstore.com. I can't find my particular jig kit listed. It consists of the 3 hole jig, a clamp, cutting bit with depth collar and the square head screw bit. It was around $40.00. They have alot more intricate clamping systems but I like this one because you can reposition it in a matter of seconds. I'll get a pic of it when I'm at the shop and post it up.

On the dash sealed. The mic was ran head to head with a Termlab and was within .5db last week. It peaked exactly where it was designed to peak (47hz). Weird thing is that I lost .2db with the window open (tried 43hz on up). Any thoughts as to why?

Thank u man! I can't wait to start tweaking. I need MORE POWER! This was with a single factory battery and stock 130amp alt. Not to mention that the sub is only seeing 16-1700rms right now. So much more to do.

Look into an AQ 2200 It would do that sub justice. LOL

Be happy to share any and all testing results I've had while working within a trunk.

I've been thinking about the AQ 2200. I want to hit it with everything I can without having to upgrade the alt (yes, I'm broke). What kind of power are yours 10s seeing and what VC config do you have Thor?

Dual 2's. I ran a full yr with an atomic 5k at .5 daily and had no issues.

I now have 2 5k's and for burps its fine but for music it gets scary!

A single 2200 would be perfect. Theres a kid in my league running a IA 40.1 to his AQ 15 and is doing quite nice.

Also have someone looking to sell me an American Bass VFL150.1. I've read varying numbers on rms output. Anyone bench one and have accurate #s at 1 ohm?

Wow.. So there is a alot of potential for gain here. I just need to find someone to pick this 1501d up. I'm looking forward to squeezing everything I can out of the setup I have now and then seeing what gains I can get out of a direct amp swap. If I had used my head I could have designed the box just a tad taller and swapped the AQ 18 in later.

So I've made a few changes since I last posted my score.... Ok, alot of changes. I have added a second battery, changed out the MTX TE1501D for an Audiopipe AP30001D, retuned the port, and am now running aluminum coils. This score was sealed on the dash. The meter is within .5 of the termlab (did a head to head test). During this same testing session we had a DD3500 18 in a daily box with 900 clamped watts hit a 144.5 in a Durango and an Escort with 16 Interfire 10s (no clue on power) tuned to 28hz hit a 146.5. The amp I am using has been clamped at 1400 rms for burps.

I decided to try my luck at flaring some 12 inch pvc. I had to grind it down thin enough to slot cut and bend.

 -

First layer of glass:

 -

After cutting the flare off my base tube:

 -

First fitting:

 -

I have ALOT to do before it's finished. I am going to bondo the entire curve to fill in any gaps and smooth it out before attaching. Any guess on the gains I might see?
