I made $13.75 an hour. We also had something called presidents club where we would get bonus for being the top installers in the company. If we got presidents club every month for a year we got to go on a trip paid for by CC. I got to go twice. There was also overtime too.
CC used to pay higher for more qualified installers and bigger locations paid more. Our location was platinum when I started and I started at $10 hour. Now the store dropped to gold and I think they hire at a flat rate of just over $8 hour.
Most of the guys that work there now are into the Tuner (honda civic) scene. when I was there we were a bunch of guys that just loved cars, no matter what kind, collectively we knew almost everything there was to about cars and audio. The new guys dont even really know what my HHR is. And they have never heard of dB Drag, IASCA, USACI, but they have heard of SLAP which hasnt been around here for 2 years. Go figure.

I was part time at Best Buy making $13.77. I was there a grand total of 2 years. My friend at Circuit makes $17+ per hour. Must be that different markets pay differently. I transferred from Michigan to Florida BBY and was actually making more than the senior. And it doesn't matter what shop you go to, there will be hacks and people taking ignorant, careless shortcuts. You see more from the big box shops because there are so many of them.

What I find interesting is that they black out all of the owner's information, except for the liscence plate number. Would be interesting for a bunch of interested local parties to either call or fax the dealership to find out why they need to replace things like windshields 15000 miles after the instalation?

thats cool ed, i remember you horizon with the rfl s, i competed against u at blobs park in jessup maryand and i got ya by .3, but you were using the 4 smaller ma audio amps, the ones with the orange 40 amp blade fuses in them the model is like syx something, u did a 150.4, and i did a 150.7, in an explorer, we were battleing for 3rd place...lol it was fun anyway, but after meeting you i would say u probably the smartest person in the cc car audio shop, and i believe u made more then the average cc installer,u are way more intelligent i know this from talking to you, i had the orange explorer with the dds and us amp 2000x s at that time...

was that back in 02,03? I used 4) MTX81000Ds in 02 and right before finals they got stolen. So at the beginning of 03 I was using whatever amps I could get. I used an MTX Road Thunder 2600, I used some rockford amps, and some small MA amps. I even used head unit power once and was doing low 140s. Finally in mid 03, I got 8) MTX 1501Ds and was able to get to finals. 02 was when Team BK still had the blazer in SS 1-2 and then 03 we saw James Dipietro at most shows in MD. He was a CC guy from N.J. but got out of it when he went to Iraq. He was also a very intelligent and wonderful competitor. But thank you for the kind words. Obviously you had some smarts over me by using DDs. lol
I think I was using head unit power at this show
And here is Finals 03

Yeah, I have heard a rumor that Scott Owens from Edge Audio can do over 160 dB with just head unit power in the Pioneer Truck.

according to Alan Dante, with one sub, you have to be able to do 140dB on 1W to do 180dB.

Trelo Lude was that a Plymouth Horizon ED? sweet!!!!!

Yup, an 89 Horizon. I had to get rid of it because it was my daily driver and weighed too much. I broke a few axles and the motor mounts started to rip the frame.
My last dB Drag was AudioThunder 04. I got a flat on the QEW and the back sat so low I was scraping and made sparks. Toronto Police wanted to impound it for being overweight but they let me go to the show instead.
It was actually in a few shots of the American Muscle car TV show that was filming there that year. I still cant find it on DVD though. I think the episode aired April or May 2004 and was titled Rolling Thunder.

well, with 8 subs you'd have to do about 132 on 1W. on the 70Wrms from a good headunit, 150+ should be possible. 162+ off 1000W. 172+ on 15kW. 180 on about 100kW. Now, we know you don't really get a full 3dB from doubling power, especially at higher levels. I don't think Scott is running 100kW anymore. Therefore, his efficiency should be even higher, meaning I'd guess he could do 155+ off headunit power.

the problem is to have subs that hold up under 20k+ rms the subs need multi spiders and this bringing ur sens way down.
i know i was able to do low 140s with 1 10" and a 75x2 amp bridged. playing music and could seat 5 all in a car...

Set a target dB of 140 dB for example. And see who can hit it with the lowest power. We could measure actual real time output of the amp and make sure you can at least hit the target dB. The most efficient system wins.

I had a run at Best Buy for about a year and a half. I started out at $10.55/hr and moved up to $11.70 after a year when my MECP first class took effect and then up to $12.60 after my year review. I quit that job there to take a job at Horizon Audio here in Ohio and made a jump to $17/hr. Anywhere from $15-$18/hr is about average for installers at custom shops here in Ohio. There were a couple of guys up over $20/hr at Horizon and the one that had worked there the longest was at $27/hr and could do a remote start in most cars in the ampunt of time it takes to do a head unit install (about 30min). This guys was like no one I've ever seen before, he knew the wire color for every ignition harness of any car that came his way. Ok probably not every car but you get the idea, he was the Lebron James of the shop, I should have asked him for his autograph. Come to think of it at the shop they did the first install in Lebron's Hummer, the one before he took it to Unique Auto Sports and had it all redone.

I read the post and this has to be a sick joke. Where does the dealer get off saying the car is a fire hazard ? How is spliceing wires destroying the harnes ? There MUST be more pages missing from the est. or the dealer must be looking for a law suit for a Illegal invoice/est. In my state a written est MUST be detailed with a break down on parts and labor. Only time a est looks like that is if they want to get a ball park on the price.
They want to replace the harnes...haven't they ever heard of a repair pig tail ???? Same goes for the door speakers.... worst case get the plug and the terminals....make a NEW conector right off the factory wireing. So you loose 1/2- 1 inch....should still reach no problem.
I only saw a few of the wire pics....so some one had a old role of tape or the tape had gotten wet. I know a LOT of people here have done MUCH worse tapeing wires....come on be honest. I'm guessing the factory radio must not have been fused from HONDA....or they could have just pulled the fuse and sent the car on its way.....now SUE HONDA(J/K).
I don't know about Ill but in Mi. you CAN'T keep a customers car against there will. A LOT of shops try but have NEVER seen ANY prof that there is a LAW that suports that claim. IF there IS just get teh car towed some where else.....then drive it like you did for the last year.
I think that this was just some A$$ that wanted to show him self and get $$$ for some BS.
If they want to see bad...I'll post some scary pics of UNSAFE wireing. When was the last time you say a BIG 16 volt battery bank full of bus bars FUSED ?
There REALY should be a link of this thread back to there thread.......

$30k isn't unrealistic for a CC installer at all! All installers get a pretty fat bonus each month for just doing their job at a mediocre level. Upwards of $500 to $600 additional each month. Not to mention the $835 in Snap On Gift Cards the company gives away to each installer over the course of the year for just maintaining a medium level of productivity.
