I was wondering if anyone wanted to help me with the port calculation for my new woofer. Elemental Designs 19ov.2 18". I was thinking about 45-50 in^2 of port area. It would be 4.5x10, or 5x10 port. I am limited because this is a trunk setup in a prelude. I don't know if that sounds good. The box would be 4.0 or 4.25 depending on the port size tuning is 30 hz. Real flat response 3db down @35hz, -10 @23.5hz. Anyway how about that port area anyone? Thanx!

Oh one more thing, the woofer is gonna face the trunk lid, and the port is gonna be side firing. It will be a 2 piece box because of limitations from the small trunk opening. The port is in the second box. The woofer is in the other box. There will be a 10x25 inch hole connecting the 2 boxes.

16^2 per cube is the going rate, but if thats what you have to work with go for it.

eD told me 12- 15% of cone area which is 35-40 square inches of port. by the way this is for daily poundung not spl or anything. does that make any difference? I never used anything bigger than a 6 inch port before.

Does is make it louder using more port area? If the answer is yes is that only for sound comp type sound not daily ? I am not happy with my box it is 4.25 ft^3 39" port tuned 30hz. It turned out the cutout between the 2 boxes was 7 or 8x17 or 18 inches, with the port in the second box which is only 6.5 wide split in half for a port, and feeding from the main box. Is the woofer gonna act like it is in a weird bandpass type of thing? There is limited space where the 2 boxes connect because the port is in it and the box is so narrow. I wish I could draw a picture of the box insides to show ,so someone could give me an opinion based on actually seeing it. Anyway let me know what you think. Thanx

I might take it out today. If I do I'll get out my camera and take a couple of pics to send you. I don't think there is anymore room in my trunk though, unless I figure out how to utilize my tirewell.

Maybe I'll just put my 10's back in the trunk. They sounded better. Not louder just better. I guess eD just recommends too small of a box. They suggest 3.5 ft^3 tuned to 30 or 35hz. My 2 10's in that size box tuned to 38 sound way better!

What would be the optimum size for the 19ov.2? You said you ran a pair in 13ft^3, so about 6.5 ft^3 for 1 with 96 in^2 of port? Tuned to 32hz, I should have known that the 3.5 ft^3 eD recommends was unrealistic!

Just 4 fun we put the 19ov.2 oin my friends 04 avalanche. All I can say is OMFG! That is exactly what I wanted it to sound like in MY car. He was only running 500 watts to it btw. He liked it so much that he convinced me to sell it to him. @ a profit I might add too. Well I am back to my DEI sx 10's. Until I find something that will fill the need (void). I don't understand why everything I put in my car sounds so much better when in someone elses vehicle? Is my car just too damn small to get the response I so much desire? Do I need to switch cars instead of constantly adding and upgrading woofers, and amps.If so how much bigger of a vehicle do I have to go? Help m out guys! Lost bass junkie
