So you're trying to discourage me from doing this, why? So I can have a boring-as-hell setup like everyone else has? And im not going to go out and buy a whole new car thats 'sweet' just to justify me doing this...dunno why people try to bring others down, even though they make no impact on what that person thinks by attempting to do so (much like this message will have no affect on you, but im just trying to make a point).

And im also puttin some 8" subs in the doors (eventually all 4...but for now, just the front 2) and will have 3 pairs of components up front, and possibly a center channel for surround sound.....if that gives you more stuff to complain about me doing [Blob]

Good luck with your current/future install(s) everyone

And no, the 8" subs in the doors was not just a copy of that project you sent me a link to (and I believe you were involoved in..?...). By the way, it looks like it turned out very nicely.

all i said was good job [Wink] lol i believe you took offense to the previous comment i made.

wasn't laughing at you for making this thread...more the comment pitbull made about decapitating someone when the amps fall. [Big Grin] check out page 14 of that thread and you'll see what i'm talking about.

i.e. the helmet post from impalaman.

plus the heat issues others were talking about -- [yes] mounting amps upside down is a no no, but my thing is they'd get more air flow mounted on the ceiling than they would sealed up in the trunk.

reason why I say you're thinking too hard is because there are factory holes you can bolt in to. no need for spot welding. that would just make it an extreme pain in the ass to work with after you weld it in place. Trying to hold amps over your head while screwing them down straight is no easy task. You'll want to mount the amps first then get some help bolting down the rack. I'm positive you'd want to mock everything up before running wires...but how would you run wires after the fact if everything is now welded in place? It would need to be semi removable.

Not only that, if you weld, you'd use steel, right? Way too heavy, seriously. that 1" aluminum is lighter than the .75" - the .75" is about a fourth of the weight of steel. Wouldn't be surprised if the weight of the steel plus amps would break the welds when going over bumps. Not to mention all the noise issues associated with it....that entire thing will be grounded.

another thing is actually flush mounting the amps....unless you get some slim amps (genesis or something), it's going to drop the roof at least 4"...considering there's about 2" of play above the aluminum rack being the roof is dome shaped. Don't know how tall/short you are, but my hair already touches the ceiling...if I tried dropping it down 4 inches over my head the car would never be drivable. Plus dropping the ceiling that far down around the sunroof, it would look like ass.

[yes] i had a hand or two involved in that project...it's my car. [Smile]

tear out the headliner, sketch up some ideas and play with them for a while...the ideas that seem like they're way too easy are probably the best ones to run with. KISS style [Wink]

Haha, yes i think i overreacted rethinkin that...my bad, wasn't in too good of a mood. And I'm only about 5'9" or so, so height isnt too big of a problem unless i have people in the car that are taller.

And also, with the ceiling's dropage being an issue and all....im thinking about just mounting 2 of the GM-3300's in the middle of the ceiling (running in line, lengthwise of the car...these amps are only like 7 inches wide or so, i think)...so that even if tall people are gettin in the back seat...the only spot that is lowered by the amps, would be the center (so, whoevers riding 'bitch' will be extra uncomfortable, haha)
