If you were going to build a half wall setup, would it be better to fire the sub up and port forward, or fire forward and port forward?

id say sub and port forward. i think i tried up last year with a non sealed half wall box and it didnt do crap. might be different in your car though. you can get more creative than that though. im in the middle of a build of a half wall type box. it doesnt involve firing any of those ways.

this depends on many many factors. Most top SS 1-2nw competitors use vans or trucks and have subs and ports forward, most street competitors with CRXs or small suvs have subs forward or up and ports back. I say build, test. re-buid, test again.

id do it subs up and ports firing forward. as long as u selaed off from trunk it should get at least loud to ear anyway. not to sure about mic. but ask chad lee he has 2 15" BTLS in an 2005 model 2 dr Honda.half wall design. subs facing up and port firing to the side of the car/ driver side of the car. its insanely loud!

in my focus hatch I prefered sb front port up... but thats just me... I didn't try port back too many times as the boxes I ran were too big to have room for the port to load properly...

so what do you consider a half wall? to me, it's either a wall or not... my huge boxes were over the seats and had maybe 10"-12" of clearance from the roof across the length of the box... to me it was a large ported box.. half wall doesn't have anything to do with a wall at all imo... it's a fixed box that happens to take up half the space... or just a cheesy wall if it is indeed a full wall... sounds more like a ss nw or sm box to me personally

i guess what i consider a half wall is basically just a big ported box, where the back seats used to be, but kinda molded in with the contours of the doors/windows.

I'll only be using one sub, a soloX 18 and 2 american bass 150.1's (the old gold ones)...goal is to get to a 150 this season

sub up and port to the side sounded loudest to me. i've had subs up port up, subs front port front, subs up ports front, subs front port up, and now subs up and port side.

i hit 147 last comp and hoping to better with some better batteries. my 2 yellows can only do so much for my 2 orion 2500d.

I did 145.2 sub up port side with my soloX 10" on my mm4000.1d 37hz... daily box 35hz tuning, but I suppose I calculated the aeroports wrong otherwise it shouldn't have been peaking at 37hz. beat the crap out of it allday like that til I sold the gear when I needed money... can't wait to get back up higher, wifes car is sitting at a 140 flat from her trunk 1 12" 4hp off a xenon 600.1 PG [Big Grin] on music shold burp a bit higher [Wink] . just don't care to test burps atm. I will when I get around to it... her's is sub up port back rear seats folded down. completely stock car besides the wire running to the back and the amp deck and sub/box.. no deadener or big 3 or anything stock battery 04 jetta that's been killed a couple times from leaving the car on. I really need to throw some of my kinetik monsters in there and big three to test it out more lol... loud for what it is imo. I've never seen anyone local do anything near that with that little equipment...

150 from a soloX 18" should be no problem. power will help, box will help the most. all my loud boxes have double layer mdf all sides, the soloX was triple 3/4" front baffle. heavy as a bastard but louder than single layer that flex all over the place... I'm sure I can get her car close to 145 with the 600watt amp that I have in there. a few tricks up my sleeve... I started at a 141.6 with the soloX 10" and that was on burps. so I can muster more out of the 12" in there. just takes work and I'm a lazy bastard lol.

half wall... it would be considered ss1-2 nw class... therefore you have NO WALL [Razz]

also try sub front port back maybe...

I'll be competing for sure, mainly bass race, but might do some points chasing in drag though too....this whole setup is going to put quite a strain on my focus's suspension lol

My highest was 152 on tl in my truck. But highest at db drag was 149.8 in mini street 3 for the Oklahoma state record, I could have done better but it wasnt worth tearing anything up for.

can you guys tell me what i am doing wrong here. shouldn't i hit better numbers with 2 btl and 2 orion 2500d? like i said above i tried many different ways of facing the box and i just can't seemed to get loud.

i am not all disappointed with my 147 score but i feel i should be hitting higher numbers. i only have one yellow under the hood and one yellow in the back. i know thats not enough but how much can i improve with better batteries?

i took out my backseat and made a platform and that is where my box is.

btw sorry for hijacking the thread. i didn't feel i need to start a new thread for my question. [Smile]

i say take down the platform that way u can get more than u 6.8 cubes. id shoot for around 8 cubes internal. and ur not getting anywhere near 5000 watts tahts for sure. id take one orion out and try 1 @.5ohms. but now u cant power those 2 amps properly. but actually id do more power before i change the box. but then again christian went to about 4 cubes each sub and go way louder same power.

yeah i guess it all comes down to how much power my amps are getting. thanks.

i can't take down the platform cause there is piece of metal sticking out where the seat mounts too. i had to make the platform that height so i don't have to cut that piece out. i really don't want to do any permanent alterations. i am just trying to get 150+ out of my system. lol.

its possibe with what u have now just got to find a way to get an real 5000 watts. it highly ever that u would see 5000 not that ur amps cant push that much/ just have voltage drop and imp rise to worry about.

is there a certain point at which i might want to think about beefing up the suspension on the focus?
