there is lightweight mdf and ultra lightweight mdf awesome stuff not found everywere quadwood is the lightest but it's a composite and cost big $$$www.quadaudio.net

From what I gather MDF is heavier than HDF because MDF is less dense, and contains a lot more resin.Team Kicker FloridaSPL.com

search the web for "Weight of materials" and "weight of building materials" lots of good info about different materials is out there.

I'm not sure of the weight but I do know birch is lighter. Also if you are considering HDF you better invest in drill bits and screws, A LOT. That stuff is so tough it breaks screws like you wouldn't believe.
