Say your local stereo shop blows donkey, how do I "tell" how loud a car stereo is from sitting inside? Are there definite phenomenons when a stereo goes over 140dB, then 150dB...and so on? I'm assuming a Term-lab mic, AC mic should be at least 6 dBs louder correct?

well anything over 144dbs i say on termlab it starts to get painful depends on what Hz ur burping at. and trust me u will know when ur sitting an in 150+ dbs car termlab that is. but its hard to say have a guy just hitting 145dbs but it hurts like hell cause he hit 145dbs @ 30hz so its kind of hard to tell unless u kind of already know what to look for and expect

Well for high bass I'm looking for how hard the bass pounds my chest and if it makes my eyes water. For low bass I'm looking for the "shakes" and if it makes my body bop. In either case the sense of air rushing into my nose and mouth seems to tell that I'm in a loud vehicle.

You arent going to get an accurate reading of how loud a car is without a meter. How "loud" things sound is very frequency dependent. My 131.4 at 38hz will sound much louder than the same score at 60hz.

Here is an example my old setup in my car would move a crazy amount of air and peaked at 30hz but it only hit 140.0 on the old termlab.

There's different types of loud. Loud to the ear doesn't neccesarily mean loud on the mic. It really depends what matters to you. If it's SPL, then there's absolutely no way you can tell without a meter. If it's loud to the ear, then a meter doesn't even matter.
