So how much should I charge to build a nice set of GOOD kickpanels?

Nothing fancy, just carpeted to match the interior and for it to be an OEM replacement panel?

Is 150 + shipping cost unreasonable?

yes that reasonable.....

you have to factor in how much work you will need to do, and the fact that the palstic kickpanels you can buy for some cars (q-logic)
are just not upto par with a custom made set.

i very well think 150+shipping is a good deal as the q-logic's run i belive $200 a set.

Honestly thats a killer deal if they are sealed back. As stated USD Audio and Qlogic kicks go for $150-199 a set. You wanna build me a set for my crx [Big Grin] ? I'll be a test subject.

I charge 500 a pair for them. That is all custom made and ready for paint. That usually holds a mid and a tweet. So 150 is not bad at all!!

I think it depends on the definition of good. If good is a plastic factory kickpanel with a ring for the speakers, some spacers, fleece stretched over it and glassed. All done without taking into consideration the airspace needed for the mid (and whether or not it works in free-air, in a sealed, or ported enclosure), not taking the time to listen to ensure that the speaker is aimed in the proper direction, and not taking the time to kill resonance with modeling clay, etc. Then $150.00 is probably ok.

If you are doing all of the above and more $150.00 is a great price, and actually not enough.

If you are just building a basic kick thats about right, I wouldnt feel bad about charging more, think about what shops charge...

to be honest....id charge $150 per side.

Even if i was buying from another installer and i knew it would be a high quality job i think $300 for the set is a good deal. Now that is mainly because its custom work. If it was Qlogic and there was an assembly line of kicks for your particular car rolling off then of course its cheaper. One of a kind fiberglass projects get costly especially if you can pull it off and make them look natural. Im not sure id pay $150 for everyones kicks/fiberglass work but damn sure for a few people here who's work ive been eyeballin. [Wink]

in 98 I paid $300 for some custom kickpanels in a neon, and they looked (and still look) badass!!

$150 is way too cheap for all the work that goes into them, but charge what you want to charge. [Smile]

What is the big deal with backed or sealed? They'll sound better with a hole cut in them to let them breathe.

I'm right with Meade...though they might be small, still takes time to do it all. I might would charge less if they wanted fuzzy carpet and I didn't have to get them real straight to vinyl or paint.

That money includes time to listen and aim them to get a proper stage...you want something stuck down in the floor and don't care about proper sound? Yeah, we could get you out for even less money.

My kicks are totally sealed. For the size speaker they probably would be considered "large", but they work. [Smile]

The whole goal of what I'm trying to do is give 2nd Gen 4runners ('90-95.5) a viable 6.5" mounting location. These vehicles come with 4"ers which plainly suck for reproducing anything below 100hz. By sheer location difference the kicks will be a huge improvement.

Kicks are going to be carpeted and generally angled to mimic my own kicks which I HAVE spent a LOT of time working on to get to have a nice sound stage.

I just wanted an idea if 150 was about right for that, and it appears so. [Smile]

thanks for the input guys!
